Community Highlights: Meet Thea Zeppone of Zeppone Caring Hands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thea Zeppone.

Hi Thea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Thea Zeppone. I am the CEO of Zeppone Caring Hands. Well, where do I start, as a child I grew up in a family full of healthcare professionals. As a child, I enjoyed going with my aunt to patients’ homes to help them with daily living needs to maintain a healthy life while at home. The more I was able to have hands in and assist the more I started to realize this was a field I truly enjoyed. Fast forward I graduated as a Certified Nursing Assistant and began working in the nursing homes but couldn’t really understand the way their care was being handled, so I transitioned back into what I grew up in and that was doing In-Home Care. I worked many years with many different agencies.

I decided to go back to school and get my Medical Assistant License and my Bachelor’s and Healthcare but found myself going back into’ Home care after that. I knew I loved what I did and all my patients loved me and I could see I was bringing so much light and joy into their lives. I just couldn’t understand why I wasn’t happy with how most of the agencies I work for didn’t have patient care as a priority and there was no communication. So, one day I was thinking and thinking and while I was getting my client ready to take a shower he said to me you would make a great CEO and you will know how to make sure people like me get the right care, he said the passion you have is what is needed in this world. Not understanding why he just said this out of nowhere, I began to think. When he said that I truly laughed believing this is crazy but thank him for his kind words.

Later on, I began to take what he said, did my research, and decided if I start my own In-home care business, I first must be fully ready to be different but make it everything I wish all the other agencies that I work with would have done, I knew that wanted to have care plans that are customized to each patient needs to where their life status are at the time of care. I also just didn’t want any homecare agency. I wanted an agency that is a family from patients to the team members. I was going to create a difference in MY community.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No way, nothing worth having will be easy… Every road that had bumps, and dead ends, just wanted me to give up. Me being me I always grew up knowing that nothing happens to ME it happens for ME, with that being said I took every bump and made it either a lesson to be a better business owner, person, or even a leader for my team, or I took it as a blessing to grow more into what I vision for myself to be and have. There were many many long days and even longer nights building, working, building, and working to grow into the vision that the Universe made me do.

After all, I began to understand that all this was a plan for me to be a leader and show others that serving comes first and all the rest will follow. I’ve cried questioning myself if this is really the vision I want, but the testimonies from patients and their families give me the fuel reminder that this is the passion that was called on my life.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our company is a Non-Medical and Skilled Nursing agency that provides in-home care services to adults with disabilities and seniors. We specialize in Alzheimer’s & Dementia care. Our services are all customized to meet each patient where they are in life. We cover personal care, companion care, transportation, and much more. All care is custom by an RN. Here at ZCH we’re not just any agency, we are a FAMILY.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
What can I say but continue to serve more and more of our community and grow to add more services like case management and mental health programs to give our patients more reliable care that is needed? I would also like to grow a program to help our employees also grow and follow their dreams, they play a major part in each in every one of their patients’ lives. We are nothing without a strong team.
