Inspiring Conversations with Elizabeth Elkins of Elizabeth Elkins Weddings & Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Elkins.

Hi Elizabeth, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My career in the event industry started in college when I interned as an assistant wedding planner for a small mom & pop wedding and events venue. It was the first time I really got to learn all the behind-the-scenes planning of events. After graduating with my degree in Hospitality Management I worked as a Banquet Manager for a year and then was promoted to Assistant Director of Catering for almost two years at a club in Charleston.

This is where I really developed all of my managerial skills and gained strong connections with local vendors. Once Covid hit and slowed down the industry for a bit I got a chance to revisit the goals I set for myself when I was in college. At this point in my career, I felt confident enough in my role through my training and experience to be able to move on to that next goal, which was to start my own business! I am so thankful for everyone who has helped me get where I am today and so excited to continue to reach my goals!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business always comes with its own struggles, especially when you start a business during a pandemic. Covid definitely altered the way a lot of people do business so there was an adjustment period in the industry with that. Personal struggles within my business are the start-up costs, the local competition, and building a strong group of vendors that I am able to rely on.

However, navigating through those struggles is also such a great part of my job because I love meeting new people and gaining new friendships through work, and I also love finding unique ways to get my business to stand out and meet those financial goals, so it has definitely been a good time.

A quote that keeps me motivated is “Nothing worth having comes easy” and I am really working hard and grateful for the opportunity and the support from my family, friends, and peers within the vendor community.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Elizabeth Elkins Weddings & Events?
I am a wedding planner that is local to Charleston. I have been in the Hospitality Industry for eleven years and the event industry for four years. I offer three packages for weddings and events which include Day of Coordination, Partial Planning, and Full-Service Planning.

There are a lot of options for wedding planners in the area and finding someone who fits the couple’s personality is the most important part of the decision process. I grew up in Mount Pleasant in a big blended family which shaped my personality by being very open-minded and personable.

I really enjoy getting to know my clients and their story and history, and bringing that uniqueness to their weddings through design is how I differ from other planners.
