Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorenzo Simon.
Hi Lorenzo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Born in ’97 I’ve always had a love for hip-hop. Growing up some of my favorite influences were 50 Cent and what he was doing with G-Unit, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Machine Gun Kelly, and Tech N9ne to name a few.
After discovering underground hip hop in 2012 I knew music was something I wanted to pursue. Luckily we were given school-issued laptops, and that’s where my music career “began”, however, I didn’t release any music until I did a guest verse in 2016 for my older brother who also has always been a huge inspiration behind my journey!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is definitely hard coming up in South Carolina for many different reasons. Not only are we further away from the “big” markets, but there is just SO much talent here that it makes breaking through a challenge, I find that motivational though.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been writing, recording, and engineering my own music for 4 years. My primary focus is more on the songwriting than anything else, however, my second favorite step in the process is the mixing.
I’ve managed to pick up a few accolades along the way; unanimously winning the Underground Hustlin Volume 66 guest verse contest has been by far my favorite accomplishment because Uproxx.tv ended up writing an article on the contest/winner.
So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
The journey matters the most. The Journey is the hardest thing to start, and the hardest thing to watch end especially when you’re focusing on a certain destination. You can so easily lose yourself along the way.
