Hi Emily, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
It has always been a dream of mine to own my own business. The desire has grown exponentially as I am raising my four children- to have something that was truly our own. I wanted to show them the entrepreneurial spirit, hard work, and success that comes with growing your own business. I also have a strong desire to be helpful to others. Not just merely pushing a product but truly listening and building relationships with customers to give them the best products that meet their needs. I want to bring joy and love while providing the best possible product for the customer.
My first career stop was being an attorney in Michigan. I loved being an attorney and envisioned myself always doing that. As our family began I knew that something had to give as being away from my kids was not going to be something that would keep me happy. I decided to step away from being an attorney and raise my children- at that time I just had two. When my second was born we also got more exciting news, my husband who works in manufacturing was being relocated to the Rock Hill area.
So with a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old, we packed up and headed south to beautiful South Carolina. Raising my children became my main focus and I loved it. We added two more little ones to the family clan and I also became a pre-K teacher as working with young kids became my life. As life continued on that burning entrepreneurial spirit that I always had tucked away kept coming up inside of me and I knew my career had another exciting stop. My husband and I then started searching.
That is when we found Bloomin Blinds. We instantly knew it was the perfect fit. It is a company built on family, taking care of others, and always striving to be the best. We do not push for sales but rather for solutions for the customer. We listen to the customer to understand their needs. What separates us from others as well as we repair all types of window treatments.
So instead of just pushing for new sales we also look out for the customer and try to save them money by completing repairs as well. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Labor challenges have hit us head-on in the early stages of our business. This issue actually turned into a positive because I was forced to throw myself into all the daily appointments and handle 100% of the repairs.
Where before I relied on my tech to handle this. Although I was scared to take all of this on so soon, I knew I had to do this for the business. I have learned so much so fast and know I am a better business leader going through this.
