Life & Work with Courtney Reese

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Reese. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Courtney Reese is a board-certified, licensed cosmetologist. She is the founder, owner and operator of Reese Tress Hair Studio, established in 2014. She graduated from Miller Motte Technical College.

Courtney has always had a passion for not only doing hair but making her clients feel good about themselves with their styles. She began her career journey at a young age by braiding her younger sister’s hair. She then received her braiding license where she would go on to braid at stores on the Myrtle Beach boulevard during the spring and summer. She was given the opportunity to work in a hair salon where she grew her talents from braiding to also include doing locs, sew-ins, color and so much more!

After working alongside close friends in different salons, she decided to become a business owner and open her studio. With the help of her loyal clients and the support of her family, she has been very successful and has been able to start building her brand by offering multiple hair products from oils to shampoo & conditioner.

Today Courtney is one of the most sought after Locticians in her area! Her schedule is booked weeks out with those looking to have their Locs thoroughly shampooed maintained & blessed with one of Courtney’s unique styles.

Courtney is a native of Conway, South Carolina. She has two daughters who love doing hair also! She loves spending time with her family, growing her knowledge of the hair industry and pushing herself to greater limits to accomplish her goals.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth. For 6 years, I worked in my salon alone. Although it was peaceful at times, it was lonesome & difficult to stay afloat financially. I stayed the course & survived. Now I have 2 people who work in my salon. I still have my personal struggles but I do my best to keep going!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Although I am a Licensed Cosmetologist, I excelled in Loc care! I am very neat & particular about my work. I think what sets me apart from others is that I still care deeply about the art of shampooing. It is the most important & relaxing part of any hair care service. I am known to give you one of the best shampoos of your life along with a unique style.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
It has been a joy over the years to watch my industry embrace natural hair & Locs. Locs are most definitely the new afro! With extensions & so many different techniques, I see more people turning to Locs in the future!!
