Today we’d like to introduce you to Keesha Glass.
Keesha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been singing since the ripe old age of 3 years old. If you let my mother tell the story, even as a baby, every day I would wake up singing! Even though I don’t look it, that gives me over 30 years of singing experience. I started in the church leading songs that would have the congregation standing on their feet. I enjoy singing every genre of music in every capacity. My career includes singing on stages in front of thousands, and at small private parties of 5. My love for music keeps me singing in any capacity; lead, back up, choir, ensemble, duo, and more.
I am just starting to focus on presenting my original music on the digital stage on platforms that all of my country-wide fans can enjoy. Recently, I have moved back to my roots in the Charleston, SC area. I have been singing with local musicians under the band name “Palmetto Soul”. I enjoy collaborating with musicians of all genres and bring a part of me to the music I spread with my performances.
My favorite genre of music has always been Gospel and Jazz. I enjoy doing classic Jazz sets whenever I get the chance. My fans have likened me to the greats! Which is always a humbling experience. They love my ear for Jazz, and my “bending” talent that takes my vocals to a whole new level. I love giving my audience an experience that they haven’t heard before. Each time I sing a song I put my signature and unique styling on each note, even on a song I have sung a thousand times. This is why I sing with the most talented musicians I can find!
Concerts, recordings, videos, musicals, I have done it all and I love it all! I give my heart and soul in every performance, which is why I love the name “Palmetto Soul”!!
I love my fans enough to give a top-notch performance every time. I love the music enough to practice each day and perform in new ways. I love what I do because music is a part of my soul.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am struggling right now to find a guitarist to steadily work with. The Charleston area has presented more issues with accompaniment than NY did. I find myself having to give up shows because I have no one to play with me. I could use tracks, but I love sharing the stage with musicians that love music as much as I do.
Hopefully, someone will come along soon.
Other than that music is always a joy to me because there is so much I can do with it. I find the challenges just lead to greater opportunities.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a musical artist, my work has many facets. I write, I perform, I collaborate, I teach, and I do it all for the love of music. I love to perform which is what I do the most.
I specialize in singing songs of all genres that touch the soul. I don’t believe there is one genre that defines me, or one genre that I love most. There are songs that I believe transcend; and those are the ones I love.
I am best known for the sound of my voice, and what I lend to the music. I change the sound of my voice to lend to whatever emotion I want to bring across in the song I am singing, whether it is an original or a cover.
I am most proud of being more than people expected to hear. I love it when something I do wows someone in the audience, or a song touches someone, or if someone tells me they never heard that song sung that way.
I bring my personality into everything I sing. I bring a part of my soul into every song I sing. This is what makes me so particular about the songs I sing. That’s what sets me apart from other singers.
What matters most to you? Why?
My relationship with God is what matters most to me. God has been with me from the beginning and I wouldn’t be who I am today without Him.
I know I am different from most who have a relationship with God, but it is everything to me. I believe being able to connect to something greater than yourself helps you to stay motivated, keeps you striving for better things, and keeps you hopeful!
