Today we’d like to introduce you to Keshia Torres and Marian Blanco.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Keshia- The way it came about, we suppose, was a bit impulsive. We were sitting in our office at work and, my now business partner, Marian, mentioned wanting to have a big Halloween bash for her birthday. We immediately started planning for it. That day we joked about being party decorators full time and even came up with our business name. We obviously ran with it because here we are 2 years later. We spent so much time in that office planning those 2 weeks leading up to her party that our boss began to periodically check on what we were doing. Once everyone was able to see our potential, family, friends, friends of friends began reaching out wanting to hire us for their parties. We’ve been on this party roller coaster ever since and although its been a wild journey, it has also been a rewarding one and a great learning experience for us.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Marian- It has not been smooth at all. Like any business, it takes a lot of sacrifice, time and having the faith that you’re going to succeed. Finding our niche within this space was a bit of a challenge in the beginning but I believe we’re getting there. Learning to compromise has also been a key component to us maintaining a healthy business relationship. We are both very vocal and there have been many times when Keshia and I (Marian) don’t see eye to eye on our decor arrangements but we always allow each other space to meet in the middle (if that makes sense).
Finding balance! We run our business, have families, and still have day jobs. Finding time for everything can get a little hectic for us but we’ve learned that sometimes you just have to get as much as you can done within those small blocks of spare time because big blocks of time may not always be available.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are an event decor company. We specialize in decor setups for main focal points and balloon garlands
We are super proud of all of our work- we truly strive to put our best foot forward with each decor set up.
Event decor is very much so a “trend based” industry and oftentimes clients will request super elaborate decor set ups on smaller budgets. We pride ourselves in providing as much detail and customization as possible while staying within their budgets, and without sacrificing the quality of our work. Quality materials are a major key and we believe this is what sets us apart.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Keshia- I was such a nerdy tomboy growing up. My bachelor’s degree is actually in biology with a minor in biochemistry. Growing up I liked science and getting dirty playing outside with the kids in my neighborhood.
Marian- I was always a responsible and creative child. Not in a crafty way but visualizing and coming up with a scene or look, has always been easy for me. I have done theater in the past and I also enjoy photography.
