Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrie Suber.
Hi Sherrie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a designer at heart. It has always been my interest, even as a child. Though, I originally pursued degree in psychology and even worked as a mental health case manager for little while. It wasn’t until after undergraduate school that I realized I could no longer run from my natural talents. I had also completed a business degree with the intention of starting a business. Well then, the stars collided, I decided to marry my business background with my natural talents, and things took off.
I started my design business in 2013, making custom pillows and draperies. While design was merely a hobby before, I decided I needed to know more. I always wanted to know more than my clients, and build my creditability in the industry. I enrolled again in an undergraduate program for Architectural Engineering, which is one of the 2 ways of entering the interior design field. I also interned with one of the best interior design firms in my state and in the country. I learned a great deal there. I’ve always had the mindset to approach new experiences and opportunities as a student. It’s still something I live by today. I will never stop learning.
I’ve also worked retail design and for several showrooms. I’ve met a lot of amazing people including fellow designers. Working in different showrooms helped to develop me as a designer. And as my skills grew so did my client list. Never underestimate the power of Guerrilla Marketing. Since freelancing my own work I have been able to complete several renovations and work with families across the state of South Carolina and beyond. I truly believe my diverse background gave me the recipe for success.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Let’s be honest, the road is never smooth with entrepreneurship. You are the CEO, Marketing Manager, PR Manager, Customer Service Representative, Installer, Bookkeeper, and whatever job description presents itself that day. I absolutely love my business, so it’s all worth it. I’m always thinking of ways to improve my operations and of solutions that better serve my clients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about House of Interiors?
We are an interior design firm located in Spartanburg, South Carolina since 2013. We provide an umbrella of services including residential and commercial design. We specialize in creating livable and luxurious spaces. We work to develop design concepts for our clients including: detailed layouts; lighting and ceiling concepts; interior finishes for carpet, base, and special floorings; upholstery, and other fabric selections where necessary; wall paint, wall coverings, and casework finishes. We provide consultations, drafts, renderings, layouts, and design inspiration in the beginning stages of your project and follow it to completion.
We also specialize in kitchen and bath design. We love the renovation process that kitchens and bathrooms involve. When designing kitchens and bathrooms we focus on functionality, storage, and beauty.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
As I mentioned before, I have a background in mental health. This has helped me so much in this business because I have an enormous love for people. Having this background helps me adapt to different people, personalities, preferences, and lifestyles. I can also pick up on the design style of any client, usually upon meeting them. I studied Psychology in undergraduate school and as you know Psychology is the study of behavior. It’s important for me to learn the lifestyle of my clients, and how they live, to truly produce a design that serves their individual families
