Today we’d like to introduce you to Realite Ruff.
Hi Realite, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I can genuinely say I’ve been creating since 1st grade, I taught myself how to draw and it went on from there. Cutting my clothes, adding some drawings to my shoes with a cute bag. My mom hated it of course but she never tried to stop me or change how I would express myself. Going into my senior year, my mother passed and I thought my life was over, but no one ever knew because I coped by creating. Freshman year of college, I would make my money by designing things for my peers or being that “Go-To” model to try different things with, I never put a limit on what others saw of me. I always wanted to be the “Jack of all trades” out of the group and ever since that’s exactly what I am.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has never been a smooth road and I think that’s what motivates me most. Life is all about experience, the more you fail the more you learn. There has been many times where I felt like I was on the wrong career path. I hated everything I created and it took a toll on my mental while still grieving, not understanding why I felt the way I did. Stressing about the art I do make, thinking I didn’t do enough while trying to be “budget-friendly” and plenty more. But I’ve learned so much about myself over the years and can point out whenever I feel like I’m criticizing myself too much. I take breaks from certain projects to maintain the happiness it brings me and I couldn’t be prouder. I’m so thankful for ALL of my friends who has supported me since the beginning.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well for starters, I’m Realite! I am what I create, for myself and others. I’m a freelance painter/model, entrepreneurship at its finest. I’m mainly known for modeling for surrounding photographers in SC and I open commissions sporadically throughout the year. Early this year I picked up sewing and that’s something I’ve been trying to accomplish since I started cutting my clothes. My focus right now is my brand “gRRimz WRLD”, I’m working on a bag collection that expresses who I am and how I make my statement in the art and fashion world. I’m most proud of the consistency in wanting to learn more, venturing out to other aspects of art. My presence is known as soon as I step foot in a room and I know my expression of art from my hair, makeup, outfit, all the way down to my bag sets the pace. What you see is what you get.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I feel like bad luck plays the biggest role in my life and business. No matter how the mood is set for any day, I can depend on something to interfere but that’s the best part. I’ve always been able to turn the negatives into a positive and I produce the best results from feeling defeated or discouraged.
