In addition to her personal clients, she also works with commercial clients such as Metro Mattress & Kiddup. In 2021, Jackie & her family relocated to the Charlotte area and works with clients from all over the country using a state-of-the-art virtual platform. Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first started my business, I worked mostly one on one in person with my clients. In 2019 one of my clients moved across the country, so I began using a state-of-the-art virtual platform that allowed me to shop for her and create a virtual closet where I put together outfits for her. When the world locked down in 2020, my business was able to continue and grow because I had the ability to style women without having to physically be in their closets. When I relocated to the Charlotte area in 2021, I was able to keep working with my clients from New York and expand to other areas of the country. I currently offer in-person and virtual services, which allows me to be very flexible and adapt to my clients’ needs and schedules.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Small Town Stylist?
I’m a big city girl at heart, but relocating to a small town didn’t mean I had to compromise my style. For several years I enjoyed working in NYC in marketing and then fashion. As the assistant to Jennifer Elster, a cutting-edge stylist (as well as film writer, director, producer, performer, and an executive at The Development Productions), I learned a lot about being creative, working with commercial clients and celebrities, and being true to my sense of style and my vison for my clients, which included Bacardi, Bloomingdales, Olympus, and the lead singer of the musical group Garbage. After relocating to a small town upstate, I utilized my commercial experience in the field of marketing and advertising, continuing to contribute creatively to projects as well as cultivate relationships with my customers. I’ve always enjoyed fashion- pouring through magazines & websites, designing and sewing my own clothes, and creatively combining high and low end into my daily fashion choices- keeping in mind that what works in a city like New York might be considered over the top in my small town. Over the years, big-city fashion has become more available to small-town women, but it still can be difficult to translate what we see in Vogue and on celebrities to what is appropriate for grocery shopping or a girl’s night out in a small town. That is where The Small Town Stylist comes in. It’s my passion to offer insight, advice, and guidance for navigating big city style in a small town.
Any big plans?
As a confidence coach, one of the most satisfying aspects is helping women find their inner strength, determine who they are and what drives them, and to build that confidence so they can take on the world. Many of my clients are busy moms who work outside the home. Over the past year, I hear often that they are feeling frustrated by the world around them. They want to take action to make life better for their family and community but are not sure where to start. That’s why I created my Fierce Mom Workshop. I give moms the tools to find their passion, get activated now, and boost their confidence so they can take on the world. Workshops are held monthly in-person and online.
