Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristine Benezra.
Hi Kristine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my fashion journey in college at The Art Institute of Charleston where I majored in Fashion Retail Management. While working at a local bridal boutique, I met the designer Sareh Nouri who I later ended up interning for in New York City. My internship led to a job at Saks Fifth Avenue as a bridal consultant where I sold wedding dresses and styled brides for all of her wedding events. After five years at Saks, I kept finding myself thinking about how Myrtle Beach needed a women’s boutique that catered to different styles, ages, and sizes. After weeks of thinking this, I decided to do it myself. From here, Melrose was born!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have to start by saying how thankful I am for all of my customers, especially the locals! We opened on February 14, 2020, and had to close a month and 3 days later due to Covid. Not something any new business owner wants, but we worked through it and when I say every single sale is celebrated, I mean it!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Melrose is a women’s boutique that caters to the modern-day woman. We offer many different brands that allow us to cater to different styles and people from your working mom to your college student. I am most proud to be working with Good American who allows us to style different sizes and shapes. Our Good American denim ranges from size 00-18 and our clothing ranges from XS-XXL. At Melrose we want every single person that walks through the door to feel welcomed and like they can find something that works for them. Whether it is a wardrobe update or styling someone for a vacation or event, we love to dress women in what makes them feel good!
