Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawn Bigby.
Hi Shawn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been doing music ministry now for over 20 years. Growing up in my small Baptist church as a kid we had 2 ways to serve…usher or choir member. Before I knew I had musical ability I knew I didn’t want to stand up all day in church! LOL. From there I fell in love with the church and all that comes with it. As I was preparing to enter college I began to really pursue and realize my purpose was found in music ministry specifically worship leading.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to where I am today has honestly been fairly smooth but it has certainly had its share of challenges. Being a man of faith and trying to live by my faith has been what has challenged me the most. Sometimes believing for something and waiting for it happen can be daunting!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have a few different things that I do currently. I serve as the Creative Arts Director (Worship Leader) at Right Direction Church International. There I get to oversee our music and arts ministries at our main campus along with overseeing the leaders at our other campuses, I am also a recording artist in the gospel music field. I have recorded 2 projects of my own and several features for different artists. Along with this, I have written for several artists including but not limited to E Dewey Smith, Jason Nelson, Stephanie Summers, and Marvin Sapp whose album recently won a Dove Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album just to name a few. Lastly, I am also a clinician and teacher of worship and I have recently released my first book entitled The Platform: On and Off (A Blueprint for Worship Facilitators) which is available right now on my website shawnbigby.com as well as other distributors! Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I am married to my beautiful wife of 4 years who is also my best friend and we have a new baby boy who is the joy of our life!
