Hi Lisa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
On a family trip to Myrtle Beach in early 2021 the family discovered The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar, founded by Bo and Sherri Steele. Immediately our granddaughter, Brooklyn, said we need this where we live. After meeting with the Steeles, they agreed! The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar Mount Pleasant opened in December 2021 and is co-owned by family members Matt and Heidi Oates and Gary and Lisa Gremillion,
Locally owned and operated the milkshake bar is quickly becoming the number one dessert destination in the Charleston area for residents and visitors alike. Using over 100 ingredients, including locally grown produced and toppings sourced from local bakeries and businesses, guests have over 50 dessert combinations to choose from. The line-up of signature milkshakes and treats is ever-expanding and overflowing with creativity! As a keepsake, each milkshake comes with a glass mason jar to take home. Our signature milkshake, playing in the Pluff Mud is available only at our location. It is quickly becoming one of our most popular items as it features a one-of-a-kind mason jar with images of the Ravenel Bridge and the Holy City, filled with blended chocolate and sea salt caramel ice cream, topped with chocolate whip, and dusted with crushed graham crackers and Charleston Chews.
The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar hopes to be a blessing to the community it serves. We have hosted several school spirit nights, where we have donated at least 10% of the total daily sales. Currently, we are accepting canned food items for the Awendaw Food Bank.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We are first-time business owners, so there has been a steep learning curve. The first month we were putting in 100-hour works weeks, which was not sustainable. Since then, we have been able to hire our first Manager and it has helped tremendously with the work/life balance. We will have a General Manager coming on board soon, with the Summer approaching and our truly “busy” season this was a MUST!

We are a Christian organization, family-owned and operated. We work hard and play hard. Generosity is the heart of our business. Thousands of dollars have already been donated to the community in just the four short months we have been open. Our staff love us and we love them. Our signature milkshake creations are truly a work of art. And who doesn’t love a milkshake? The Crazy Mason-Where calories don’t count.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Use discernment when hiring. I personally interviewed, vetted, and hand-picked every employee, since they are a reflection on our company.
