Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Burgess.
Hi Jamie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Originally from a small town in North Carolina, my family and I relocated to Charleston, SC, in 2007 to pursue opportunities that were not readily available to us in our small hometown. I have been married to the girl of my dreams since 2005, and we have 4 beautiful children. My family is definitely my support group for my woodworking business. They understand and support the dedication that I pour into my business. Since founding the company in 2014, I have learned the value of customer service and the benefits of exceptional quality. My passion for woodworking began in 2010 when I built my first guitar. From that point on, I knew that woodworking was more than a hobby; it was a passion.
Holy City Woodwork’s is founded on Godly principles; respect, compassion, and love. We respect our clients and show compassion for their requests. We show ownership and take full responsibility for every project we are involved in while sharing the success of each project with our clients.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The company has suffered its fair share of struggles and setbacks. Starting a business is always a difficult decision to make and takes a tremendous amount of self-discipline and support from others. As a small business owner, I’ve often struggled with measuring up to the standards and expectations that larger businesses can provide. However, each piece that we create is custom-built for the customer, just as they have requested. We take pride in building relationships with our customers and creating friendships that last for years to come.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
At Holy City Woodwork’s, we specialize in custom-built pieces of furniture, home decor, and refurbishment projects. We are known for our custom-built pieces that meet the specifics of our customers’ requests. The pieces that we create are unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that are not available from larger suppliers. They are crafted from the highest quality materials, and we take great pride in each and every aspect of the build.
As a business owner, I take pride in our ability to create lasting, personal relationships with our customers. We build relationships that are founded on trust and compassion for others. This is also what sets us apart from other companies. People want to be treated fairly and work with companies that they can trust. At the end of the day, it brings me great joy knowing that we have built a piece that our customer loves, but we have also created a lasting friendship.
How do you define success?
Being successfully is not just about achieving goals but about finding purpose in life. We all have certain goals we strive to achieve, but the journey is a big part of the success. Some consider success as an end result. I view success as every obstacle accomplished along the journey. The smaller obstacles that we often overlook make us stronger, smarter, and more skilled in our profession.
