Conversations with Alicia Brooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Brooks.

Hi Alicia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in Charleston, SC I have always had a passion for the entertainment industry. Modeling, singing, and acting, just to name a few, is what I have been interested in for as long as I can remember. I have always been surrounded by musically inclined individuals including my dad, my brother, my aunts, and cousins. I began singing in church from a young age and from there began singing in local events with my cousins in our reggae band, rightfully named, The Dream Merchants Reggae Band. At the age of 14, I was introduced to Nina Nesbit, CEO of Industry Direct Models and Talent. There, I began taking acting class, building my resume and portfolio, perfecting my model walk, and developing the thick skin I would need for this ruthless industry. After weeks of intense training, A LOT of fundraising, extra shifts at Burger King, and the help of my mom and dad, family friends, and community members, I headed to New York. There I would compete with hundreds of other aspiring artists in front of hundreds of national and international agencies. After a successful two weeks in New York, a few short weeks later I signed with two agencies, one in Atlanta, the other in Los Angles. Although since then, I have departed with both of those agencies, I am forever grateful for the opportunities and the knowledge I gained. I have been able to build an incredible resume and portfolio by collaborating with creatives, photographers, and videographers, and business owners from all over. Now, more than ever, I am super appreciative of the people right here in my community.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been smooth. Going out for audition after audition, and being rejected was/is tough, but it’s a part of the job. Not to mention I have also been in school (high school and now college) throughout much of my career, so finding the balance has been a challenge.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I model and act. I have been in local commercials such as George Sink, Parkers Kitchen, Roper Saint Francis, and my most recent; the spokesperson for Hudson Nissan of North Charleston.

This past year, I have also added CEO to my resume. I am the CEO of A&R Marketing & Promotions, LLC. I create social media content, manage social media platforms for business/owners, and also create marketing materials. I am most proud of this accomplishment. Through A&R Marketing & Promotions, LLC, I am able to help business owners propel their brand to reach new levels.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Instagram, Facebook, and Canva are my daily go-to apps for not only myself but for my business A&R Marketing & Promotions LLC. I am always studying analytics, making sure to be engaged, and looking at new trends.
