Today we’d like to introduce you to Kandi Halley.
Hi Kandi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For the love of Lashes! After years of getting my lashes done, I became more intrigued with the application. After having a second child my spouse and I agreed I would be a stay-at-home mom. I quickly learned I could not sit home all day because I wanted to still do something, yet not really work for someone else. I then took a class from a friend to learn. From there, I practiced the art on friends and family. Before I knew it, it became a passion and I had several people willing to pay me to do theirs! My next step was to become professionally licensed to lash and I attended South Eastern Esthetics Institute in Columbia SC. My initial reason for enrollment was lashes, but now I love all things esthetics! I am now a full-time entrepreneur. I am in my studio Tuesday-Friday with a very steady and lovely clientele. I now specialize in lashing, body waxing, facials, and skincare for women as well as men! I have now been in business 3 years.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The toughest struggle was having to pay for school out of pocket due to being denied financial aid because I have a Master’s Degree (Business Admin) & Bachelor’s Degree (Health Admin) in which I received funding. Those funds took a significant chunk from our savings not knowing if the investment would pay off and with COVID, it was scary not knowing when my family may have needed such. The other was building a steady clientele and showing clients why I was the esthetician for them as opposed to someone else. It has not been a smooth road from start to finish, but it has taught many lessons and I’m thankful for it!! I’m so glad I chose this path!
We’ve been impressed with K. Halley Esthetics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
K. Halley Esthetics is owned and operated by me, K.Halley. I am an Esthetician licensed in SC, NC, and GA. K. Halley Esthetics is known for beautiful & quality Lash Extensions. K. Halley Esthetics specializes in Facials, Body Waxing, Facials, and Skincare for Women and Men. My company differs from the others because I treat each client as an individual and I learn their needs so that each service is a personal experience each time and not just an appointment I take that’s on my books! Each of my clients have access to me if they have any questions and concerns and I educate them along with every service given to ensure we both want, expect, and get the results desired. I am most proud that I am able to connect with my clients and show that I value them. I want readers to know that I am committed to helping each client achieve THEIR skincare/lash goals. No two clients are the same, so I make sure each get individualized service. I want my brand be meaningful, trustworthy, and sincere. I don’t ever want a client to feel like just an appointment filler, I want them to get an experience and be enthused about skincare/lashing!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I feel a mentor is anyone who genuinely has a passion for what they stand for/the business/task at hand. If there is no passion, there is no room for advising another. As for networking, there is always someone on the next level. Never think it stops with you! Always be willing to learn, observe, communicate with others, and that it is ok to listen to gain info; don’t always listen to respond.
