Today we’d like to introduce you to Ra’Jonna McMillan.
Hi Ra’Jonna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I am originally from Allendale, SC but I grew up in Columbia. Prior to stepping into entrepreneurship, I was working towards a career in forensic science. Halfway through completing my courses, I started to want something different. I was never 100% sure of what I wanted to do with my life, but I knew that I desired to travel often and I desired freedom. I got introduced to the travel industry, which is actually funny because back in high school, we had to declare majors. Our courses were designed around what our major was, and in high school, my major was hospitality & tourism. It is funny to see that I ended up in that space after all because I had no desire to do that, even though that was my declared major in high school. When I got introduced to the travel industry, it was exactly what I was looking for. The opportunity to travel, the opportunity for personal, time, & financial freedom. I also loved the flexibility and the opportunity to make limitless income. I’ve been an entrepreneur for almost 4 years now, and I will actually be coming up on my one-year mark of being a full-time entrepreneur very soon.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This has not been a smooth road at all. It is definitely worth it and rewarding, but there is a lot that comes with it. One of the biggest challenges that I had, in the beginning, was being consistent. With entrepreneurship, your return is based on the investment that you put into it. You definitely have to do the work and stay consistent in everything that the journey entails. I have also learned that your bank account will never exceed your personal development. It is important to work on you and continue personally developing daily. I used to think that those things did not matter, but they make a difference. I did not start seeing the results that I wanted to see until I started prioritizing my personal development & daily habits. Every day you should be reading, watching, & listening to something positive in addition to adding in any other positive habits. When you are trying to shed a bad habit, don’t put all of your focus on just trying to get rid of that bad habit, but focus on replacing the bad habit with a good habit. There was so much that came with this journey that I was not prepared for, so I have learned that it is also a must to prioritize your mental health and making sure you stay in a good place mentally!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a serial entrepreneur. I own a full-service, home-based travel agency, I am a real estate investor, I help assist others in starting up their own home-based travel agencies, and I own a financial services company. I am most known for my travel agency and helping others startup their own travel agencies. Throughout this journey I have learned a lot about business, investing, the importance of multiple streams of income, and how to make money work for you. These are things that I did not learn when I was younger, and I can only imagine how different life would have been for me if I knew these things early on. I am most proud of being able to leverage my businesses to teach these things to others and show them how to do it as well. I am proud of being able to show people that average people can make above-average income!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Integrity and authenticity. Be unapologetically you! Throughout my journey, I have had so many doors open for me, and sometimes there have been doors that has opened and it makes me think, “wow, how did I get here?” I feel like the world is oversaturated with people trying to “fit in” or people trying to dial themselves back from who they truly are. The world needs you to show up as your true, authentic self. What I have learned is you never know who is watching you, you never know who may be looking up to you, and you must be mindful of your influence. You’re making impact! I believe me being my authentic self, and not being afraid to be different, (whatever different is) has been key to my success.
