Conversations with Yeshua Perez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yeshua Perez.

Hi Yeshua, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been a creative person. As a kid and all throughout high school, my medium of choice was sketching. I had big dreams of becoming a cartoonist. Sadly, I let that dream go and ventured into the world of graphic design and multimedia. I work now as a UX designer but my need to create has never left. A friend reached out to me stating she needed some photos taken for her blog but didn’t know any photographers. I decided to get an entry-level camera to help out…and then everything changed.

I fell in love with photography. The stories that get told in a single shot. The emotions generated from a color palette. The connection felt when working with an actual person. the one thing I was always missing with my other forms of art.

Though I dabble in multiple mediums, photography has my heart. It’s such a powerful form of art and expression. I finally found a way to truly show the world how I see it. How I see the people in it. The chance to show the hidden strength in each of us. The beauty in our lines. Our emotions and imagination on display. I love every minute of it. My goal has and will always be, to share my art with the world in hopes they can see what I see and feel what I feel.

It is my passion and my peace.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I want people to see my art. Such a simple concept and yet the most challenging. Finding people to work with, finding proper locations, finding the time…all of that is challenging and tough but once it’s done, once the work is completed, getting people to see it…that’s the real challenge.

In a world saturated with content, social media blind spots, popularity-biased and ever-changing algorithms, posting your work can feel like adding a drop of water into an ocean. You have to be patient. Continue producing even when no one is looking. Remember the reason for the creation. Fight for time and resources. Find new ways to get your work out into the world and hope they respond to it.

It’s tough but in the end, it will be worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an artist who uses multiple mediums. I’ve dabbled in sketching, sculpting, graffiti, digital illustration, film, and painting but nowadays, photography has my heart.

I use photography to share my most inner thoughts with the world. To tell stories of inner strength and beauty. Power, passion, resilience, and inner potential. I use photography to create my own world of the fantastical. Slight exaggerations of real-life while showcasing what we see inside of ourselves.

The absolute beauty in a line. An insight to our true selves. A message of enduring passion. True freedom of the soul.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a child, I was energetic, silly, loud, and constantly drawing. I loved making people laugh. Still do. As a kid, I equated laughter as acceptance. As love. But my form of self-love was superhero shows, looney toon cartoons, and comic books. They gave me laughter, wonderment, and strength. So, I either wanted to be a true, blue Superhero or a cartoonist. Shortly thereafter I realized I couldn’t fly or lift cars…but I could draw.

Shows and music inspired my drawings. They filled my mind with so many stories that I had to put them on paper so I could share them. I continued being an unpaid comedian and sketch artist throughout high school and college. Using music as inspiration. My headphone kept imagination running while giving my life a soundtrack. But I never ignored those around me.

I’ve always had an inviting personality. I loved meeting new people and hearing their stories while telling my own. I loved the energy from positive people. From other artists. I held on to my dream of being a cartoonist even as I started school for Graphic Design.
