Rising Stars: Meet Canon Langner and Mitchell Mikes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Canon Langner and Mitchell Mikes.

Hi Canon and Mitchell, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi! Our names are Mitchell Mikes and Canon Langner. Being born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina, we have had the opportunity to watch this beautiful city blossom and grow into what it is today. GVL Groupies began as a source to document all of our favorite places and it suddenly grew to become an active blog that supports local businesses, promotes events in the Greenville area, and raises awareness for volunteer opportunities that give back to our beautiful city. As the city flourished, new businesses were opening left and right. Every free chance we had, we went somewhere new and began posting about it on the Instagram page for friends and family. Canon’s little sister, Connor Langner, is a local artist and drew the logo on an iPad in the living room one night never expecting the growth the page has today. We still have the same digitally sketched logo, mission of supporting our home, and sharing all the best places in Greenville with others. The purpose of the page is to build a group of support that is willing to try new things, visit new places, and discuss causes we care about in our local community. While being a GVL Groupie, we can watch our city flourish and grow while sharing the next best place to check out. How lucky are we to be a part of THAT Greenville!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With our page only being fairly new at three months old, we have had minimal struggles. Greenville Groupies is a compilation of all the things we love to do on a regular basis which has made this new platform one of the most fun and exciting things in our young careers. We are newly engaged and enjoy meeting people, exploring out of our comfort zone, and supporting small businesses. However, one of our biggest struggles is finding time around our occupations to attend local events, grand openings, and specials. Canon is a local teacher for a school downtown and Mitchell is a service coordinator for a landscaping company. Our work hours interfere with our attendance and participation, but we attempt to make up for any lost time by having way too much fun on the weekends hopping from place to place and documenting it for our followers. Another challenge is remembering to take pictures when we are so lost in the moment enjoying ourselves in our time off. As we continue to grow, obstacles are expected and we are still brainstorming on how we want the page to grow and specialize for the benefit of our city, local businesses, and followers.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Greenville Groupies specializes in advertising, promoting, and providing engaging content to support the growth of Greenville, South Carolina. We are proud to support local businesses through our page while capturing pictures of our experiences in the city. We work and collaborate with all types of businesses to keep others informed about current events, specials, and updates. What sets us apart from other social media pages is that we are doing this for fun and love of where we come from. This page, although starting out as a mini scrapbook, has now become a community. We call our followers “Greenville Groupies” as we are a neighborhood of people supporting business growth, protecting our city, and helping others. Our page is very personable as we are doing this alongside our professions to purely enjoy life with others. We truly believe that there is power in numbers and there is nothing that we love more than meeting new people every day. To support someone’s dream and help their business grow- it has truly been one of the most rewarding things we’ve ever done.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
During the Covid-19 Crisis, we have learned to appreciate the small things. Before the pandemic, many of our daily activities and lifestyles were taken for granted. Now, every moment is precious with others, every event is more special than before, and we appreciate our strong community. This life lesson learned has been the huge inspiration behind our vision of Greenville Groupies. We hope to be present and grateful in every moment while ensuring steps are being made for the health and safety of all to lead to even better days in the future.
