Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Benson and Anya Chase. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Originally from Washington, Emily found her passion of baking at a young age. After graduating with a degree in Baking and Pastry from the New England Culinary Institute, she began to establish her career. Focusing on everything from classic desserts/techniques, to gluten free/vegan options and everything in between. With a background in Hotel Management, Anya has been cooking professionally for over 12 years. She started to focus on Vegan and Vegetarian cooking when she herself, became vegetarian.
Both Emily and Anya have a passion for cooking for others, using real, local ingredients. After meeting a few years ago, they decided that Beaufort needed a restaurant that catered to everyone. Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten-Free, and everything in between. And that’s how Herban Market and Cafe came to be.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s amazing, and everything we’ve hoped for and more. It’s been a learning curve as neither of us have ever been business owners, but the lessons along the way have been great, as we learn something new every day.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We’re fortunate to get to be creative with our ingredients and menu from seasonal changes, to dietary needs. Herban Market sets itself apart from other restaurants in town, as we are the only Vegan/Vegetarian eatery in Beaufort. Our focus is using real ingredients, (local when possible), no preservatives, and we create everything from scratch. Our passion for healthy food helps us strive to set the bar high. Whether your gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, or not… you’ll always find something delicious at the market. Were fortunate to have open-minded customers, so we get to experiment with more unique ingredients and flavor combinations.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Herban Market and Cafe also offers, Fresh Pressed Juices, Smoothies, a full Coffee Bar (with house-made syrups as well as locally roasted coffee). We are a dine-in cafe, but also offer a convenient Grab and Go selection of freshly made offerings.
