Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa and Luis Cantu.
Hi Alyssa and Luis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The story of how we met is the perfect example of how technology is bringing the world together. In 2018 Luis relocated from Monterrey, Mexico to Columbia, SC to work for a Software company located off of Bullstreet Downtown Columbia.
It was here that he downloaded apps to make friends around town. This is where I enter the picture. I am an artist with a love for the community and nature! Our first couple of dates we found ourselves exploring different parts of South Carolina and nearby states together. Just like any other relationship we learned a lot about each other including our similarities and differences. Luis is analytical and logical, where as I am more creative or artistic, but both of us value and understand the importance of knowledge, compassion, and Innovation.
Fast forward to today- We are married, bought a house in SC, and adopted a cute pup (Bruna). We want a different life and in response we started Innovalti.
Innovalti a digital transformation company which specializes in enterprise services and digital solutions, Augmented reality (AR) has been the highlight of some of our most interesting projects! AR is a brilliant balance of art and technology just like our relationship. The digital element to this art form opens doors to a whole new world of possibilities. We can make paint strokes move and even allow the viewer to step into the artwork!
We are currently working with South Carolina Cities, government agencies, museums, and private organizations to create these AR experiences that are accessible to anyone that has a smartphone!
Here’s 2 of our most recent local examples of our work:
-We are currently working on a project for the The City of Columbia and Richland County that is focused on water education and awareness for the public. Thanks to Augmented reality, the viewer will be able to safely hop rock to rock in the Saluda River, while exploring and learning about the beautiful natural environment that is right here in the midlands.
– West Columbia PRIDE Community bridge painting project: Over 100 local community members helped me start this painting at an event. I then finished the painting and will be presenting it to WestCola this month. The purpose behind the artwork is to bring attention to the LGBTQ+ community. The various colors of the artwork reflect both the immense diversity and the unity of the community. The Bridge (the subject of the image) which you may recognize is the famous Gervais Street Bridge also symbolizes new beginnings, and transition into a better future for all. Thanks to AR the artwork is brought to life when you view via your cellphone and the viewer can enjoy the artwork on another level!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not! Haha. Starting your own company comes with many challenges but we do not call them “struggles” we choose to call them opportunities.
We’ve had many opportunities to learn more and problem solve.
– Working and living from home 24/7 since 2019.: Like most people, we were struggling with the transition to quarantine. Day in and day out being inside worrying about the future… However, we very quickly learned that this was a HUGE opportunity for innovation. COVID-19 pushed companies over the technology tipping point—and transformed business forever. This need for new technology adoption is the reason for Innovalti’s (our Digital transformation business) success.
– Quarantine prevented me (Aly) from participating in in-person events that would allow people to see my artwork. I saw this as an opportunity to bring the art to the viewer! This is where Luis helped me research and understand how Augmented reality worked. This new art form/tool allowed me to share my artwork with anyone that has a smartphone or tablet.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about innovalti?
This was hard to choose between Business and creative because we are both haha!

We plan for all outcomes best we can…
Of course, we weren’t able to plan for a global pandemic… however we were able to predict that people being in quarantine would increase the need for technology.
By making decisions based off of predictions we are risking the time and energy that is spent based on our forecast.
