Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Hall.
Hi Adam, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My first exposure to chiropractic was as a high school athlete. I had a back injury from weight lifting and couldn’t stand up straight or take a deep breath without severe back pain. Our sports trainer referred me to a chiropractor when the traditional sports injury treatment didn’t correct the issue. After the first adjustment, I was able to stand up straight and take a full breath without pain. I didn’t consider it as a career until I was in my junior year at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. At that time, I was on the pre-med track but knew I didn’t want to go to medical school. My dad had been really sick and I spent a lot of time in hospitals and doctors’ offices with him. I knew that wasn’t for me. Around that time, I met some students from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC. I was intrigued with the philosophy behind chiropractic and loved the idea of using my hands to heal and help people feel better. I enrolled at Sherman and graduated in December of 2009. One of my professors gave me a piece of wisdom when I asked about getting into practice. He said to find a place you want to live and then find a way to practice there. I knew I wanted to be in Charleston, so my first job as a chiropractor was at a small office in West Ashley. I made the transition to the multi-disciplinary integrated practice model in 2012. I loved the collaboration between various healthcare providers that allows for a complete picture of healing. We can address the pain or dysfunction that a patient presents with and then address the underlying causes and provide the patient with tools and knowledge to help maintain their improvements.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has certainly not been a smooth road since I began practice. Personally, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in January 2014. For me and my new wife (we were married November of 2013), it was devastating. Everything we had planned was up in the air. No one can really tell how severe MS will be at the onset. But my wife and I decided we were not going to let it get in the way of our life. Our motto became “tough times don’t last, but tough people do”. We would rely on that motto again and again over the years for one thing or another.
Professionally, graduating in 2009 when the country was still in the depths of the Great Recession made opening my own practice impossible. It wasn’t until late in 2017 that I was able to become the owner of my practice. My former employer decided to sell the practice and offered it to me. The learning curve was steep going from employee to employer. The learning curve was steeper becoming a new dad. We welcomed our daughter, Ridley, January 2018. The initial payments from insurance companies were slow and the bills began to pile up. But tough times don’t last and tough people do. The insurance issues got sorted out and our practice grew. We had two good years and were poised for significant growth going into 2020. But we all know how that turned out. As a face-to-face elective healthcare practice, we have had some struggles in the past almost 2 years of a once-in-a-generation pandemic. But tough times don’t last, tough people do. We have adapted and refocused our practice to achieve great things in the years to come.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Back 2 Health Physical Medicine is a multidisciplinary healthcare practice that utilizes the unique abilities of several different healthcare professions. In other words, we are a one-stop shop for your healthcare needs. Our team includes a Medical Doctor, Physician’s Assistant, Physical Therapist, Chiropractors, and Massage Therapists. We all work together to get the best results possible as quickly as possible as naturally as possible. Oftentimes people seek our care when they are in pain. Our medical team is great at reducing pain. But we don’t stop there because pain is the body’s “alarm” to let us know something isn’t right. Our Physical Therapist, Chiropractors, and Massage Therapists are great at addressing the causes of pain. The result is comprehensive treatment that relieves pain quickly, addresses the underlying cause of the pain, and gives the patient the tools and knowledge to maintain the improvements that they make in our practice.
In our efforts to address the underlying causes of pain, we realized that often the culprit is excess weight causing undue stress on the joints of the body. This led us to develop a Medical Weight Loss program to help our patients lose unwanted pounds. We focus on changing daily habits that will provide long-term weight reductions and reduce the stress on the joints. This also leads to better blood pressure, lower blood sugar and A1C, and an increase in energy.
After helping many people in the Lowcountry feel their best with our physical medicine treatments and medical weight loss program, we wanted to help people look their best too. In 2020, we began to offer Aesthetic treatments such as botulinum toxin (Botox, Xeomin, etc.), dermal fillers (Belotero, Restalyn, etc), Micro-needling, and PRP facials.
What sets us apart is that our patients can get so many different services in one location without sacrificing that “personal touch” that comes with a small family-owned practice. Many people have been to a chiropractor or had an injection or done a few weeks of physical therapy. But only at Back 2 Health can they get their chiropractic adjustment, have their physical therapy session, get an injection, and a massage ON THE SAME VISIT!
What are your plans for the future?
The future of Back 2 Health is bright. The demand for our style of practice is huge and growing. People want to feel like their healthcare providers know and care about them. That’s what they get at Back 2 Health.
In the future, I would like to refine and expand the services that we offer to our patients. I would like to expand our practice into other regions of the Lowcountry with a focus on the underserved and rural areas that don’t get the same attention as the larger cities and towns. The challenge will be to maintain that “personal touch” that our patients appreciate as we expand.
