Inspiring Conversations with Abbey Little of Abbey Little REALTOR®-Assist2Sell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbey Little.

Hi Abbey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was born in Charlotte, NC and have loved living here in the Carolinas my whole life! I went to college at UNC Charlotte and graduated with a BS in Psychology because I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, but did thoroughly enjoy all of my Psychology classes. I graduated in 2005 and did nothing with my major, but started a career in Corporate America. I was eventually married and had my son in 2013, and became a stay-at-home mommy. But, not for long! I left an unhappy marriage in 2016 and was ready to get back to working! I cherish that time I got to have with my son, but I actually love to work, and staying home with a baby was unfulfilling for me. So back to Corporate America I went. It did not take me long to realize that was not fulfilling either! Sitting in front of a computer at a tiny desk, no windows, being forced to be there for 8+ hours a day, having to ask permission to go to a Dr. Appt, etc, etc… yuck! I felt imprisoned. I continued to work there and saved my money to purchase my first home on my own! I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of buying and decided to enroll in Real Estate school to become a realtor on the side. The first Commission Check I received was so much more money than I was making at my corporate job. After that I decided my focus was saving all of the money I made in Real Estate Part-time so I could quit in one year. Sure enough, I quit March of 2020 and was ready to go! However, 1 week after I quit is when the lockdowns started and forced homeschooling began. I was scared that I made the wrong decision and needed to go back until Covid died down. But I am so glad I did not! 2020 was an amazing year for me and my business continues to grow. When you change your living situation you change your life and I love being a part of that. This job can definitely have its ups and downs and it can be scary being a single mom living off Commission only. But I wouldn’t change it for the world and so happy I am in this place today. Work can be crazy at times, but I always find time for my amazing friends, sweet little boy, awesome boyfriend, and cute pup!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I remember the first contract that I wrote fell through because of Repair issues; I think I cried lol. I learned quickly that you must have persistence and tough skin. If you let yourself fall into a place of struggle and fear, you will not be successful. I have never been in sales until becoming a Realtor and I have learned how important it is to keep your head in the game. There are so many ups and downs of being self-employed. Sometimes I will show a new client one house and they love it, offer accepted, and it is smooth until closing. Sometimes things beyond my control occur and it’s not so easy. Quitting my Corporate job that gave me definite income a week before we went into a State of Emergency due to Covid was super scary! How will I sell a home if I am not allowed to leave my own home? No one will be buying or selling in a Pandemic?!? I didn’t have a choice to sit around and be scared and worried because I had a son to support and bills to pay. Thankfully I stayed headstrong and pushed through; 2020 became my best year for sales so far!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a licensed REALTOR® in SC and NC. I am from Charlotte and moved to the Fort Mill/Tega Cay area after college. Having lived in the area my whole life I am an expert and am full of knowledge about neighborhoods, schools, parks, events, churches, etc. in Charlotte and the surrounding areas. I can usually meet someone and instantly know what neighborhoods or side of town they would be happy in. There are so many emotions involved in buying and selling; I put my Psychology skills from college to use all the time with this career. Tons of people are migrating to this area because of our lower cost of living and amazing York County schools. You really need someone who is familiar with the area and who will stay on top of things and really be a great advocate for you because this Real Estate Market is crazy right now. I am type A, organized, meticulous, detailed, and get things done! I am proud of how my client base has really grown since I have started from scratch. All of my clients feel heard, taken care of, and trust me to get us to the closing table and I am honored to be a part of helping families change their lives. Working for a discount brokerage, I focus on a lot of Sellers. Being a listing agent helps me also be a better buyer’s agent b/c I know what the competition is putting on their offers! I can list for a discount, but still provide full service including contracts, negotiations, photos, and do everything that I was doing when I charged full price. It really is an amazing concept to be able to list with me and get the same exact thing you would get paying more with another Realtor. Not to mention, when you list for less with me, you get to have me as your realtor and you can never go wrong with that.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
People are surprised to find someone that is native to Charlotte still here!
