Meet Dr. Yadira Baez- Lockard of PsychoLegal Assessments

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Yadira Baez- Lockard.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was working for a community mental health as a case manager when I was assigned a case of a child who was murdered by her mother. I was responsible for assessing the individual and provide treatment recommendations. I was subpoena to provide additional information about my findings and I became highly passionate for that type of work. I specialize in Forensics which is a subspecialty highly dominated by white males which encouraged me to empower other minorities. I currently have 2 practices one in clinical psychology and one in forensic psychology.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been an easy road. As a minority female in a highly white male-dominated, I tend to be treated with less respect as my counterparts. I am often needing to prove myself while other doctors do not.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My organization focuses on providing forensic services which includes military court-martial, family court, criminal court, and federal court. I am an expert witness for various courts and work with both the defense and prosecution. I specialize in sexually violent predators and their indefinite confinement in the state of South Carolina. My company is set apart in which I am not a hired gun. My goal is to uncovered what the underlying issue to the problem is and figure out a solution.
