Check Out Corrisa Thompson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corrisa Thompson.

Hi Corrisa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After fertility struggles, my husband and I felt led to pursue adoption. We were blessed with a beautiful baby boy and then 3 months later found out I was pregnant! 9 months later our baby boy had a brand new brother.

After 10 years in the classroom as an elementary school teacher, my husband and I felt led to have me become a stay-at-home mom, something I felt God was calling me to do but was nervous about since our family relied on two incomes! However, God provided and allowed me to stay home with my two miracles!

As they grew older I started to get the itch to use my creative side again, so I decided to try my hand at monogramming. I was immediately hooked and friends and family were knocking down my door asking for monograms and adorable applique shirts. Since my boys were so young this provided me the perfect opportunity to work from home during nap time! It doesn’t get better than that! From there, Stitch a Story Designs was born. For years I clothed my kids and all my friend’s kids with the cutest monograms and appliques. It grew and grew and so did my boys! Eventually, it became so busy I was having a hard time keeping up on my own.

One night God woke up in the middle of the night and planted a new seed in my mind! Leather earrings! I spent all night excitedly researching leather earrings and the industry. I was immediately hooked! Leather earrings are so beautiful, unique, and most importantly weightless!! As a young mom, I spent a lot of time in yoga pants and t-shirts and the one thing that always made me feel put together was a cute pair of earrings! However, earrings hurt my ears, so I rarely wore them and instead lived in my pearl studs.

I knew there were so many other mamas out there that felt just like me and I knew if I could help them feel put together and pretty with something as simple as a pair of earrings, that this would be the perfect business for me to pursue! God had his hands all over it, so of course, it thrived! After introducing my new product, my business took off! My little stay-at-home hobby became a full-fledged business! I have had the privilege of helping so many women feel beautiful with something as simple as a pair of earrings. I love helping people find their colors, styles and show their personalities with one of my unique designs.

My happy place is in my workroom, deep in the throes of a creative session, leather everywhere, and my mind racing with ideas! I am in my element! New items are being added to Stitch a Story Designs every day! Personalized hats, embroidered towels, totes, purses, clay, wood, and acrylic earrings, the possibilities have been endless and I am having so much fun expanding my brand!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Personalized embroidery was very time-consuming, I loved it but it required so much time behind the scenes and I was having a hard time having time to be a mother and run my business. Also, I am very creative, but not super organized, which is typical of a creative mind.

The business side is hard for me, I would rather just play with leather all day!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am always releasing new designs and leathers, I love being able to cater to all ages and styles. I use high-quality leathers and findings while keeping my designs at a price point that works for everyone! I want people to actually be able to afford multiple pairs at a time, that is extremely important to me since everyone deserves a full jewelry box!

I also love to add curated items from other local mamas and business owners! My sweetgrass basket earrings are made in collaboration with an amazing basket maker local to Mt. Pleasant.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My Bible and Praying Through the Bible for Your Children. I love to listen to music, but often work in silence, since there is not a lot of that to be found in my house with 2 boys, a husband, and 2 dogs!
