Meet Kendric Smith of Chef Kendric Private Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendric Smith.

Hi Kendric, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
This journey has been mind-blowing! It all started 5 years ago. I’ve always enjoyed dining at different restaurants where I was able to try different variety of dishes so that made me interested in learning how to cook certain things myself. I started to research different recipes but when I prepare them I would add my own touch and give them a little twist.

When I got married, I enjoyed cooking even more, and I would create whatever came into my mind, my wife, and kids would lick their plates. Lol. They always compliment my cooking so that motivated me to cook more and explore different foods more. I must give my wife props also because she’s one of the reasons I stepped out on faith. I started sharing my food pics to the world on social media platforms, family/friends functions, etc. It opened my eyes to the possibilities.

Once I did that many people were asking to order my food and asking me to personally come to cook for their special events etc. When I started allowing myself to step into the chef world, it immediately took off from there. It amazes me every day the love I get from my cooking. Every day, I’m researching different things to make myself a better chef as the day goes by.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Early on, I failed at attempting to share my food with the world. I would have events that I created and they would go haywire. Not enough staffing, preparation, practice, etc!!! I could keep going. I learned quite a few tough lessons.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m a private chef and caterer. I specialize in seafood entrees, American cuisine, Italian cuisines, and appetizers. I also have my own line of sauces. I’m known for my style of plating and photography. It’s my signature and it’s what sets me apart! I’m most proud of my growth and consistency.

Even though I’m the face of my brand it can survive without me. My food presentation and taste speak for themselves.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I can only speak for myself but yes taking risks is important if it’s for something you love. For cheffing, I quit my job at Boeing. I was employed there for 8 years. Boeing provided decent money, a great environment, and great benefits but I loved cheffing more. Cheffing gave me a feeling Boeing or any other thing on earth can provide. So one day, I quit and I never turned back.
