Hidden Gems: Meet Nathaniel Gienger of Black Ops Paintball & Airsoft

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathaniel Gienger.

Hi Nathaniel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Established in 2012 by combat veterans as a 10-acre park with a speedball field and one small woods-ball field, Black Ops Paintball & Airsoft began in N.C. and is now a 150 acre, safe, unique, and exciting experience for all skill levels.

At Black Ops, we take pride in continually adding to our playing arenas to create the most exciting and dynamic field environments. We specialize in birthday parties, first-time paintball and airsoft experiences, high-end rental options for both paintball and airsoft, large groups offerings, and scenario events.

We added a pro-shop in Myrtle Beach, SC in 2017 and a 13.5-acre park including a speedball field, hyper ball field, and huge fortress field in 2019. More property may be coming soon so stay tuned!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The initial obstacle was rezoning the property so we could start construction. Zoning did get approved with some beautification conditions such as planting certain flowers, trees and building a pretty expensive bathroom.

The current challenge is being faced in the housing developments on either side. We have to make sure neighbors’ houses aren’t getting shot and we are respectful to their property.

As you know, we’re big fans of Black Ops Paintball & Airsoft. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We provide a place for paintballers and airsofters to play and always have a great time. We also host parties or group events for anything you can think of. Birthdays are our most popular but we have structured corporate events, military training, and even police training. Our recent addition has been Gel Blasting which brings the little ones as young as 4 years old into the mix. Black Ops also has an onsite and online pro-shop that sells all the best equipment so you can level up your game from renting.

One of the big things that set Black Ops apart from others is the partnership with A.I.M Athletics Foundation. A.I.M is a 501 3 C non-profit organization that provides FREE paintball, airsoft, or Gel Blasting to those who can sometimes be left out of normal outdoor activities.

This includes but is not limited to those recovering from PTSD, Cancer, or other debilitating illnesses, or those who may be disenfranchised, or even as a celebration for coming through rehab. Paintball is proven to teach team building, safety, self-awareness, and even leadership.

Black Ops is a place for players of all skill levels and we strive to bring everyone into the mix wherever they fit in.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is playing paintball with my family in the woods. Back in the day, a case of paint was very expensive. My siblings and cousins would all save our money to buy a case and then we would run around in the woods.

Some days we would pretend as though we were in the military and the games, we were playing were the real missions. This always brought us closer together and taught us the safety of firearms for when we got older.
