Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Newton.
Hi Katrina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a trauma therapist, certified divorce coach, and founder of Empowering Divorce Coaching . My journey into this work wasn’t just professional—it was deeply personal.
For over 20 years, I worked in the mental health field helping individuals navigate trauma, anxiety, relationships, and major life transitions. Through that work, I saw firsthand how emotionally devastating divorce can be—especially for women facing high-conflict relationships, emotional abuse, or the overwhelming fear of starting over.
But it wasn’t until I went through my own divorce that everything truly shifted.
I experienced the confusion, grief, fear, and isolation that so many women silently carry during this process. I also realized there was a major gap in support. Women often hire an attorney, but no one is helping them navigate the emotional rollercoaster, organize their thoughts, build confidence in decision-making, or create a vision for life after divorce.
That experience became the foundation for the work I do today.
I created Empowering Divorce Coaching to help women move through divorce with both strategy and emotional support—whether they’re still deciding if they should stay or go, actively navigating a high-conflict divorce, or trying to rebuild afterward. My approach combines therapeutic insight, practical guidance, education, and empowerment so women can stop operating from fear and start making grounded, informed decisions.
Today, I support women through coaching programs, digital resources, social media education, and content designed to normalize the emotional realities of divorce while also giving women actionable tools to move forward. One of the biggest missions behind my work is helping women realize they are not “crazy,” broken, or failing—they are navigating one of the hardest transitions of their lives, and they deserve support through it.
What started from one of the hardest chapters of my life ultimately became the work I feel most called to do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges has actually been educating people that divorce coaching even exists.
Even though I had spent over 20 years supporting individuals through trauma, relationships, and life transitions—and had worked with countless women impacted by divorce—I personally did not know divorce coaching was a thing when I went through my own divorce. And that’s exactly the problem so many women still face today.
Most people believe the only professional they need during divorce is an attorney. Attorneys are incredibly important, but they are trained to handle the legal side of divorce—not necessarily the emotional overwhelm, communication strategies, decision-making support, co-parenting dynamics, or day-to-day guidance women often desperately need during the process.
A huge part of my mission has been helping women understand that divorce coaching is not a replacement for an attorney—it’s a supplement to one. In many cases, working with a divorce coach actually saves women thousands of dollars in legal fees because they learn how to better organize information, regulate emotions before meetings, communicate more effectively, and stop using expensive attorney time for emotional processing or issues outside the legal scope.
Another challenge has been changing the narrative around divorce support altogether. Many women feel like they should just “figure it out” on their own, or they don’t realize how much strategic and emotional support can impact the outcome of both the divorce process and their healing afterward.
But as awareness around divorce coaching continues to grow, I’m seeing more women realize they don’t have to navigate one of the hardest transitions of their lives alone—and that has made every challenge along the way worth it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m the founder of Empowering Transitions Divorce Coaching, where I help women navigate the emotional, strategic, and practical challenges of divorce—especially high-conflict and emotionally overwhelming situations. What makes my approach unique is that I combine over 20 years of experience as a trauma therapist with specialized divorce coaching support. I help women through every stage of the process: from the “Should I stay or go?” phase, to preparing for separation, mediation, co-parenting challenges, emotional healing, and rebuilding life afterward.
I’m especially known for helping women feel more grounded, informed, and empowered during a time that often feels chaotic and isolating. Many women believe the only support they need during divorce is an attorney, but the reality is they also need emotional support, strategy, communication guidance, and practical tools to help them make clear, confident decisions throughout the process.
One thing that truly sets my business apart is the level of real-time support I provide my one-on-one clients. Divorce doesn’t only happen during a scheduled one-hour session each week—it happens in the moments between. Through Voxer, my clients have ongoing access to me for support, coaching, feedback, and guidance as challenges arise in real time.
Whether they’re trying to respond to a difficult text from an ex, prepare for mediation, navigate co-parenting conflict, regulate emotions before making an important decision, or simply understand what’s happening during the process, they don’t have to sit alone in confusion or panic waiting for their next appointment. They can reach out in the moment and receive grounded, strategic support and tools they can immediately apply. Clients consistently tell me this level of access and support is one of the most impactful parts of working together because it helps them feel calmer, more confident, and less alone during one of the hardest transitions of their lives.
I’ve also created self-paced digital courses and resources because I understand that many women and mothers are busy and emotionally exhausted. These programs include easy-to-digest micro lessons, practical exercises, worksheets, checklists, and tools women can access anytime, anywhere to support them through every stage of divorce.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that my platform has become a place where women feel seen, validated, educated, and empowered. My mission is not just to help women survive divorce—but to help them move through it with confidence and create a peaceful, fulfilling life on the other side.
