Daily Inspiration: Meet Rebecca Horne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Horne.

Rebecca Horne

Hi Rebecca, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My father was an artist so I’ve been making art off and on for my entire life. In 2018 for some unknown reason, I felt a very strong desire to create as much as possible. I’ve been doing that ever since. Really, I’ve been making art because I’ve felt a great need to do it for myself. I never knew or intended for it to go as far as it has taken me but I’m incredibly grateful that it has!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes, for the most part it’s been very smooth and has felt very natural. I’ve been careful to try to only go with opportunities that felt right. If I don’t feel comfortable with it, I don’t do it. The whole experience has felt like the stars have lined up for me and everything has fallen into place. Of course, there have been struggles. Mostly due to illness or surgery that caused me to slow down but it hasn’t stopped me!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve always felt the need to be different. To not fall into the thing that everyone does but to do things my way. It’s especially true for my art. I specialize in abstract mixed media art with texture. I think I’m known for finding unique items to incorporate into my art. It’s become a hobby for me. Also, I’m not afraid to try something new or different. That’s how I grow and that’s what keeps me challenged. About six months ago I entered a big time international art competition in New York called The Homiens Art Prize. I hadn’t heard back from it so I figured I didn’t get in and then I forgot about it. Recently, I received notification that I did get in and that I’m a featured artist for the month of March! I was completely shocked and I am a little proud of myself for that accomplishment.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m not sure! Maybe that in the past I painted dog portraits, horses, flowers & landscapes.
