Today we’d like to introduce you to Zachary Schwehr.
Hi Zachary, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a lover of tabletop games. I played them with my family, joined after-school clubs around them, introduced many of my friends to them, and have continued to do so for the past 20 years. The story of Adventurer’s Table really starts with that passion and in sharing some of that with my good friend and one of our partners Matthew Campbell we came up with the idea to introduce a boardgame restaurant to Rock Hill, and it’s surrounding areas.
As for how we got to our current state, we worked to grow interest in our idea and have developed a respectable following on our facebook page, newsletter, and even on our discord group. Currently we are working with a bank for an SBA loan though we recently received news that the location we were discussing a lease with has sold the location, leaving us in a bit of a fog as to if we can continue to progress that lease with the new owners or if we are simply looking for a new space.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! Having not opened up our own business like this before there has been a lot of learning required. I’ve had to work out all of the data involved in properly researching and analyzing our proposed location, as well as working to ensure our estimated numbers are within the realm of reason for our line of business. There have been hiccups and redirects all along the way but we are excited to have progressed to where we are at, really just needing to be able to lock down the location and get estimates for the renovation work to bring our vision to life before we can move forward with the SBA loan process.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My current day job is an IT Business Analyst. I get to work closely with the directors and C levels of businesses to understand the vision and needs for any applications they can dream up, I translate that data and ask qualifying questions in order to provide requirements to my team of developers and designers who bring that vision to life.
My favorite part of what I do is bringing that vision to life and that’s why were are here today, bringing the vision of Adventure’s Table to life!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Take a breath and just keep doing things that move you forward. The process takes a lot more time and research than I had anticipated, and I wish I knew that so I could have been less hard on myself whenever we hit a bump that required us to pivot in order to progress. Even today we are working through our latest pivot with our location being in question!
