Meet J of Charleston

Today we’d like to introduce you to J

Hi J, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Long story short, both my parents always showed a love of music around me from a young age. My father is an old hip hop head and my mother is an 90’s r&b sweetheart, so naturally I’ve always resonated with both genres. Around middle school, I began to grow out of my “class clown” title and step into my own artist phase after realizing I had a passion for writing and the art of hip hop. The older I got, the more I came across like-minded artists which, in turn, gave me the drive to wanna pursue music more seriously.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been easy by any stretch of the imagination at all, but, as far as struggles go, I go through what the average 20-somethings go through! Rent, work, love life, repeat. What else is there to it? I guess trying to stand out in a market that can get saturated is the most difficult part of it but I enjoy the challenge.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My name is JxShamar (pronounced Jay- Shuh- Mahr) I’m an upcoming artist, based out of Charleston, SC. I make spacey, lyrical, diverse rap music for the everyday 20-something. I cofounded and work with a rising collective named 4AM–Kj Wol, Pak the Rippa, Kershaw, etc– that I plan on launching into a brand in conjunction with the music. Currently, we’ve been performing and laying the groundwork for a successful 2025. My debut project “What If I Told You..” did much better than we expected and the responses have definitely been super positive, even reaching overseas apparently!

(Be on the look out for TiME Machine fully produced by Kj Wol & A4dable Lifestyles produced by 4ord910)

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Man, the mastermind behind the beats and engineering, my bro Kj. This man is a freakin’ wizard. Whenever he’s not gaming, supporting other acts, or producing for damn near ALL of them, he’s over here in our camp lacing our whole new sound! It’s crazy. Yall don’t even know we both got whiteboards and notebooks full of ideas ready to take the world over!
