Conversations with Matthew Ellenburg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Ellenburg

Hi Matthew, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My father was a golfer and introduced me to the game early. Unfortunately, I didn’t appreciate the game until later in life. Although I got to play some with my father, I sure wish I had gotten to enjoy the game with him more. In 1998, I had a severe automobile accident where a 28 foot Ryder truck ran a stop sign and hit me on my driver doo. While recovering from this injury, I began pursuing the game again. I eventually formed a group of golf friends including a few who could really hit the ball far. This began a journey into the the game of distance golf. At first, I assisted some hitters in buying high performance clubs and entering Long Drive contests around the South. This became a costly exercise until we met the owner of Yeti Golf. They were a small component company but offered affordable products. After selling a bunch of product for them and learning how to build clubs, we began the process of producing our own drivers and shafts. We ended up purchasing Yeti Golf and founded our own brand called Shark Attack Golf. We spent 13 years learning and growing the business from scratch into a competitive company that has products that perform at the highest levels. This journey evolved into not only Long Drive components but also on course versions of products. Reaper Shafts is also our shaft company and the most rewarding aspect so far has been that Jack Nicklaus has our shaft, the Violent Tattoo and has used it for the ceremonial tee shot at the Masters the last 2 years. This was my fathers favorite golfer off all time and although he didn’t live to see the success, I know he’d be super proud of the accomplishments. We are still a smaller but growing company and believe the best is yet to come. We go head to head with some of the biggest brands in golf with tons of success. The brands we control are Shark Attack Golf, Reaper Shafts and Yeti Golf, www.sharkattackgolf.com and bestgolfshafts.com 864-883-9228

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle has been name brand recognition but we like to say swinging is believing and changing the world, one swing at a time. We have made great strides in exposing the golf world to our brands.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Specializing in Long Drive Golf, aggressive golf, loud and bold imagery in golf and bringing attitude and alternative offerings to the drab old game of golf. This isn’t your grandfathers golf game. High end and custom golf setups that outperform the others.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Although I am a quiet leader, I am super competitive and disciplined to outwork and out perform any and all competitors.
