Hidden Gems: Meet Jason Pillar CRS/Blackstream and Christie’s/Investor Jackson Blackstream

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Pillar.

Hi Jason, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My sales career started at WCCC in Hartford, CT. At the time, WCCC was the number-one rock radio station in Connecticut. I sold radio advertising to various businesses in the area, but with a twist: I actually liked to see it work for my clients, which was shocking. Not only was I involved in the sales aspect, but copywriting and marketing as well. It was about the time 9/11 occurred, and I thought life was too short, so I started looking at options. I had been riding motorcycles since I was 6, and an opportunity came along I could pass up, Harley Davidson Test Rider, at the GM proving grounds in Goodyear, AZ. So, I packed up my belongings and headed out west. Test riding motorcycles was not as much fun as one would think; temperatures in Arizona can reach upwards of 115 degrees, and it feels even hotter when you wear leather and a helmet. However, I continued evaluating motorcycles until Harley decided to move their testing program to Michigan; I grew up riding motorcycles in the winter and wanted no part.

I ended up in Sedona, AZ, giving ATV tours through the Red Rocks. Also, it is a lot of fun until monsoon season hits and the chances of losing a tourist to a flash flood become real. After a while, I returned to the Phoenix area, where I had an uncertain future. About that time, I met my future wife Ilise, and having a love for history, I talked her into moving to Tombstone, Arizona, with me. Once there, I started giving an underground mine in the Good Enough Mine, one of the original tombstone silver mines. I enjoyed taking folks 100 feet below ground with a temperature of 68 degrees.

One day, while on a break and enjoying a cold drink at the Crystal Palace Saloon, I was approached by Steven Kieth, an actor who starred as Doc Holiday in the 45-minute show at the OK Corral, “A Tragedy at the Ok Corral.” Steven asked me If I was interested in portraying Frank McLaury in the show, and the next adventure started. During my time at the OK Corral, I portrayed not only Frank but Ike Clanton and even Doc Holiday once. I enjoyed interacting with people worldwide in my “tourism” career. At that time in Tombstone, I figured out I had better not let Ilise get away, and we got married at the OK Corral, the only wedding ever held there.

Around 2008, the economy took a turn for the worse, and Ilise and I decided to move back to Phoenix; work was scarce, so I got a CDL and started my stint as a Road Truck driver; it was not ideal, but I learned a lot. Around 2015, Ilise and I Threw a dart at the map and ended up in Maggie Valley, NC, where we spent 2 weeks in a Hotel with our young son Brayden and 2 little dogs while we looked for a home; we ended up in Polk County NC, where eventually we built a house in the Tryon/Columbus area.

About 2019 or so, I was tired of never being home with my family and living paycheck to paycheck as a truck driver. A good friend of mine in Arizona is a Realtor, and she made a post one day about reaching the 75 million dollar mark in her career; Ilise said to me, “You should try that; you would be good at it”. I took her advice, and I haven’t looked back since. I earned my real estate license in SC and started to work at Home Link Realty, a small boutique brokerage in Greenville. In 3 years, I had logged over 79 million dollars in transactions. They tell me this is good. Early in January 2024, Ilise and I moved to Boiling Springs, SC, and I started with Blackstream Christies International Real Estate and received a North Carolina Real estate License.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a great ride so far. Life always has its ups and downs, but I’ve always felt it will happen if you can envision it. And having a fantastic wife and partner by my side doesn’t hurt either.

We’ve been impressed with Jason Pillar CRS/Blackstream and Christie’s/Investor Jackson Blackstream, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a Certified Residential Specialist. I hang my license under the Brokerage of two significant firms, Blackstream Christie’s International Real Estate in Greenville and Investor Jackson Blackstream in Asheville. These firms represent the finest real estate services, from starter homes to multi-million dollar estates. For me, luxury is not just a price point but a level of service that I strive to provide to all my clients regardless of price. Blackstream has allowed me to offer superior service and marketing and a worldwide network to everyone I work with. As a Certified Residential Specialist, I am certified in listings, buyers, negotiations, and luxury homes. Only 20% of the REALTORs in the United States are CRSs, and we undergo 80+ more hours of training than the average agent. Customer service today is a bad word; I do everything I can to make Customer Service meaningful for everyone I work with, including other agents; it’s not a competition; it’s about serving our clients and fulfilling their real estate goals.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
Find a good broker who will answer your questions, and you will have a lot of answers. More importantly, someone who will have your back when you make a mistake, you will make mistakes. Continue your training; you can never know enough, and never give up.
