Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Serpas.
Hi Sarah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Blake and I met in December of 2020 when he was residing in Charleston at the Citadel, finishing his master’s degree and pursuing physical education. Upon graduation, he accepted a job as a middle school PE Teacher, allowing him to travel and work during the summer and holiday. Meanwhile, he has bartended each summer in California for the past 5 years at the infamous Bohemian Grove Club. With us being from small towns (Blake from Lugoff and myself from Santee), we knew that one day, we wanted to open up a small business that we could share with our community. I attended USC Beaufort, which opened up many opportunities in the hospitality industry. Gaining experience from Hilton Head’s beautiful Westin Resort and Daufuskie Island’s Haig Point Club, I quickly learned that I loved the food and beverage business and was sad when I left to move to Columbia to live with Blake. Fast forward to 2023, Blake and I were getting married, and for several months before our marriage, we brainstormed ideas of what kind of business we would like to start. We knew it would be tough starting, with a lot of time and money put into it. It was 3 weeks after our wedding; we decided to go for it and start our LLC, our Mobile Bar business. We bought our 1980 WW Horse Trailer and converted it into a bar for various events and weddings. We went live in September 2023 and haven’t looked back since.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It can be time-consuming; Blake and I are still working full-time. Sometimes, balancing our social life with our friends, family, and everything is hard. We have found that it’s tough starting a business and gaining a following because we are still trying to get established and get our name out there. We have also figured out that very few want to put their trust in you for their bar company when we are still so new, but they don’t know that we both will go to the end of the earth to make someone happy and their event a success. Now, with the brides and event coordinators who have trusted us, we can guarantee that we have exceeded their expectations. Although there are some challenges, we pour our hearts into this business, and now we can’t imagine our lives without it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Sippin’ Palmetto?
