Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Huff.
Hi Chris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started doing comedy at 13 years old in my home church. I did it as a one-time thing and then I got some laughs and I thought Hey, this is a nice feeling! That’s why I still to this day do clean comedy, I feel like it’s a gift that God gave me and I want to honor him with it!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a “clean comedian” is hard. I can’t talk about the things that other comedians talk about. There are also no comedy clubs around where I can go work out material. Most of the audiences in your normal clubs have been drinking and don’t want to hear anything clean or about Jesus.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love to make people laugh! If I can get a giggle I’m not going to stop until you tell me that you have got to run to the bathroom from laughing so hard. I want to keep people on the floor from laughing. I guess that’s how I work out my jokes!
Instead of being at a club, I’ll write and then I’ll just randomly use it on someone and see their real-time reaction! If I could name one comedian who has inspired me the most and who I pattern myself after it would be Martin Lawrence. I have to give credit to Martin and John Crist. I study them the most!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My former Youth Pastor who passed away suddenly last year deserves a lot of credit. Pastor Jamie Gardner always believed in me, spoke life into me, and gave me his stage multiple times to do a few minutes.
I’ll never forget when I was in my teens the Kings Of Comedy came out and I was a big Cedric the Entertainer fan. He took me out and bought me a hat just like Cedric always wore. I’ll never forget the kindness and genuine love he showed me.
