Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kichanta Fisher.
Hi Kichanta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a passion for fashion, and growing up, shopping was my favorite activity. I treated school like a fashion show, constantly putting together trendy looks to be cute. I was also obsessed with the show “Sex and the City” because Carrie’s designer game was on point and the fashion was amazing.
Once I got to college, I realized I wanted to pursue a career as a fashion buyer for a store like Nordstrom or Macy’s, but I lacked the necessary experience as I was studying marketing. So, I decided to create my dream job and start my own boutique. However, I quickly discovered that starting a boutique wasn’t as easy as I had thought; it required funds that I, as a college student, did not have. Additionally, it wasn’t as easy back then to access clothing vendors for inventory as it is today.
Inspired by online boutiques like House of Chic LA, which I regularly saw on Instagram, I didn’t give up on my dream; instead, I wrote down all my ideas in a notebook until the time was right. Then, a friend introduced me to Poshmark, where I could sell my gently used or thrifted clothes. Although it wasn’t my desired store, it helped me accumulate and save the money needed to start my own boutique.
So, I started selling clothes on Poshmark and also launched a fashion blog called “All Over Cocktails.” This worked for a while until I became bored with it. Fast forward to 2020, I learned about the FashionGo online marketplace where vendors from the LA fashion district sold their clothing. That year, I used my tax refund to invest in inventory and an LLC, and that’s how my dream of an online boutique began.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not. The first year was great because it coincided with the pandemic, allowing me to spend more time at home and invest more time into my business. It was also a time when consumers were at home more often and spent a lot of time on social media, resulting in increased sales of my products.
However, as time has progressed and I’ve returned to working a full-time 9 to 5 job, my biggest challenge has been finding the time to dedicate to my boutique. Additionally, the world is now returning to regular routines compared to 2020 when everyone was at home more, so it requires much more marketing effort to capture my customers’ attention.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Powder Room Collection LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Powder Room Collection is an online boutique and personal styling service that offers a variety of clothing options for modern women. I focus on tailoring my collections to suit every event or occasion that women may have coming up, whether it’s brunch, date night, a wedding, or just an outing with the kids.
My website is where they can find attire for any occasion, solving the problem of never having anything to wear. Additionally, I offer quick and reliable shipping or local delivery and pickup options.
What do you think about happiness?
Alongside the boutique, anything creative brings me joy, especially spending time with my daughter. She’s extremely crafty, so engaging in creative activities with her specifically brings me happiness.
