Daily Inspiration: Meet Destiny Croker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Croker.

Destiny Croker

Hi Destiny, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story begins with discovering who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. I always loved art as a child and never put down a pencil since then. I’ve always loved creating things for others and seeing their expressions, and I thought to myself, what can I do with my gift? In undergrad, I discovered what I wanted my focus to be in my field of study, and that was graphic design. The COVID year helped and encouraged me to learn software and perfect my passion. Since then, I’ve been busy ever since. I’m currently continuing my education to pursue my master’s in graphic design, and along with that, I am a graphic designer at a local print shop in Moncks Corner. Using my abilities with design, I have taken it upon myself to spend more time freelancing on the side. I have a freelance business(Croker Designs), a jewelry business(TDJewels), and a clothing brand(Atown).

As you can see, I keep busy but love what I do. I use my abilities to help my businesses, but I also enjoy helping other small businesses to create an identity for themselves. I pray that I become big one day, as I have hit walls and come across many discouragements, but through it all, I serve a God who sits high and looks down low. Without Him, I wouldn’t have this gift, and I will continue to help others as this is what I love to do.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been smooth. If anyone’s journey has been smooth, they haven’t been challenged enough. My journey is still being challenged because I’m still in this discovery stage of my career. I’m in school learning the ins and outs of design even further than I thought design would be. School has been challenging, but it has helped me with my business and taught me that I should establish myself as an artist and designer. I came to school trying to be someone else and not who I used to be, and honestly, I can say that I want to get back to that freedom. So, the journey continues, but all in all, it has not been smooth.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As an artist and graphic designer, I illustrate and create client designs. I focus more on branding and helping people and businesses make their identity. As of right now, I’m proud of my growth in terms of the outcome of my work. The work I did two years ago is such a big difference, and it’s beautiful to see. I don’t compare myself to others, but what sets me apart is my attention to detail and the connections that I’ve made with my clients. I love seeing smiles on their faces and the constant compliments of my goodness.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My high school art teacher, Mr. Rollerson, played a massive part in my passion for art. My college professor, Mr. Buser, always encouraged and supported everything I did. My family and friends have helped me succeed, especially my mom. When I thought I wasn’t good enough, my mom would always remind me of who I was and where I came from, and that is something I always remember whenever I’m doing anything for myself that can lead me to success.
