Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Bluegrass Style.
Hello Carolina Bluegrass Style, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Carolina Bluegrass Style is an amalgam of 4 seasoned musicians who wanted to bring a new sound to the bluegrass and Americana genre of music. Spurred on by Maistra of the Palmetto Chamber Orchestra, Susanna Pavlovsky wanted to include some bluegrass in one of her winter concerts. Tommy Thomas, the band Bass player, asked Don Ashley, David Prosser, and Tyler Chasteen, who had gotten to know each other from time spent in different local bands. They took some time to travel to one of the hearts of bluegrass and acoustic music, Asheville, NC, to hone the sound they wanted to create.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with most things, music is far from a smooth road. However, it’s surprising how the enthusiasm and drive of the 4 members have infected the crowds they have played for so quickly. This has also led to a fantastic push for followers on most social media outlets. There are always challenges like finding the time to rehearse, record, and have some free time for themselves. Overall, the band’s journey has been fantastic growth and enjoyment.

Well, that’s simple yet hard. We play music but, as we like to say, in our own unique “Carolina” style. We blend bluegrass, newgrass, classical country, reggae, and jazz into a sound that shows how much fun music can be.

Music as a whole always needs support in the form of people coming to see live shows, following the band on social media platforms, and listening to our music on streaming media platforms. We would love to collaborate more with local venues as we do with many of the venues out of Columbia to help bring the music and show to even more people.
