Today we’d like to introduce you to Reagan Davis.
Hi Reagan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up playing sports, and being active and “healthy” has always been my priority—from starting sports when I was 5 to playing collegiate softball at Erskine College. It has always been something that has been in my heart. In 2017, my junior year of college, I developed an eating disorder. I only cared about how small and skinny I could get. This led to working out 2 x / day with 2-3 hours of daily softball practice. Paired with over-exercising, I was restricting my food intake throughout the day. I would eat minimal calories throughout the day, maybe 800 calories, and then every night, I would binge and overeat. Every night, I would feel like a failure; I would do so “good” throughout the day by restricting calories and then mess it up every night. This terrible cycle led to me losing a lot of weight, losing my period, and looking sick. I missed out on events with friends, said no to living life in the moment, and was taken out of the present because I was so hyper-focused on my body. This was a cycle that went on for over a year.
Every night, I would look up “how to quit binge eating,” but I could never follow through on change. Undereating, over-training, and being mean to myself became normal and “safe” for my body. I knew I had to change, but I was scared. In Dec 2018, I had to change. I couldn’t live the way I was living anymore. I was surviving. I created an Instagram page dedicated to my fitness and my health. I started sharing my workouts, sharing my food, and sharing my journey of disordered eating. I went to a really small college so that everyone would read my posts, and they were very vulnerable. But the more I started speaking out about what I was struggling with, the more people I had messaging me and telling me that they struggled with the same thing and felt encouraged by my story and journey. Now, my motivation was not only to heal for myself but to heal so I could help others and give them hope.
After I graduated college, I had such a tug and pull on my heart to help other women and men who struggle with their relationship with food, I have a passion for teaching people how to eat and showing them that you can fuel your body and live life. I got my sports nutrition and personal training certification 4 years ago and have been helping people ever since. Out of college, it was a tough transition from playing college sports and your whole life/identity being in a sport to now no longer having that. It has been so important for me to find a passion and purpose inside of training and exercising again. I now run and do Hyrox competitions.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road? If not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a challenging road. In 2017, I never thought I would be where I am today. I used to beat myself up, overexercise, and cry if I ate something “bad,” but now I have the food freedom I always dreamed of and prayed for. Starting my own business in 2019 was one of the scariest things I have ever done. I had people who wanted to work with me and needed my help, but I didn’t need to figure out how to get started, so I invested $10,000 (out of my savings) into a business coach. Talk about putting faith in God and leaning into the heart pull. There have been times of doubt with business and times that I have / still sometimes struggle with my relationship with food, so progress is not linear, but I am learning and growing every day.
I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Made For More?
With 1:1 coaching, it is intentional, communication, and connection-based coaching. I have excellent relationships with my clients and create a space that is very vulnerable and safe for them. That is what sets me apart. I genuinely care about my clients, not just what they eat but things happening in other areas of their lives. I see a direct correlation between a client’s communication with me and their success.
Being a collegiate athlete, competitive, and Sports Nutritionist, I understand how to eat to fuel performance and be your most vital, highest-performing self. I work with many athletes who compete in Hyrox, half marathons + marathons, and OCR athletes. On the other side of that- I also work with people who want to live a healthy lifestyle- people who wish to renew their relationship with food, enjoy date nights out, and enjoy ice cream with their kids. I believe that your food and health should not be black and white. It is a full-circle approach to health- we work on optimizing your biofeedback, relationship with food, habits, and life- and through that, your physique looks better, just from the physiological changes. We work on rewiring their brain and nervous systems around food and creating confidence in nutrition to where it pours into every area of their life. Nutrition and caring for your health is simple, but it takes work. My goal is to simplify nutrition in my client’s lives. I meet clients where they are at, create small goals for us to develop confidence in, and set realistic expectations for whatever season of life they are in.
Brand-wise, I am most proud of my impact on people’s lives. When I get texts and calls from clients saying that I have changed their lives and that they wouldn’t be the person they are without me, it tears my eyes. Sometimes, I see myself as a 20-year-old girl who is so depleted in every area of life, is not joyful, and hurts on the inside. Still, whenever I get a message like that from someone, I am reminded that I am fully stepping and living into my purpose, and I am so far disconnected from the girl I used to be. I also have a podcast that I have had for a little over a year. It is on Apple Podcast + Spotify and is called “Made for More” with Reagan Davis. Guests and I discuss health, fitness, faith, life, and growth.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was playing softball with all of my best friends. My dad was our coach, and the best friends I made when I was 7 are still my best friends 20+ years later. My favorite memories were created then.
