Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Sweet.
Hi Chris, We’re so excited to have you on the platform. Before we ask about your work life, you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started SRM because I always had an itch to be an entrepreneur, and I didn’t know what space until I started working at a local moving company. I worked there for roughly 4 years and decided to leap. We began as a small company, me and a few guys, and 1 truck in October of 2020. Since then, we have grown to 19 trucks, a staff 60, and a 40,000-square-foot warehouse. To say I’m blessed with a great team is a vast understatement. During this journey, we have provided living wage jobs to all our employees and poured back into our community in big ways. That is something I’m truly proud of.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Anyone who owns a business knows it like a rollercoaster. There are big highs and deep lows. We have faced and overcome many obstacles that have seemed impossible. Being able to have gratitude during the lows and stay consistent has played a tremendous role in our extraordinary growth. Seeking coaching from an earlier start has been vital to our overall health as a company and self.
I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Swamp Rabbit Moving & Storage?
Swamp Rabbit Moving is a moving company that offers moving services, including packing, moving locally or long distance, unpacking, and storage. We will also go out of our way to help in any aspect, even if it’s not moving-related (think referrals to other services you may need when moving). What makes us different is that we know our why and are true to it. Our why is to ensure we set the standard for quality moving service in the Upstate to leverage our ability to the community we live in and love. We accomplish that through a critical hiring and training process, extreme accountability, paying top dollar, and continuing to pour into our team that we consider family. This allows us to provide quality moves with quality people and to have integrity when we make few and far between mistakes.
We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
I have an impulsive personality, and I love taking risks in business. Here recently, I have been cautious and calculated with my risk. Risk has made a massive impact on SRM’s growth and my personal growth, as in my belief in myself and what I am capable of. A recent scenario where I took a risk in my business was when we added the storage vertical to it last year and had to do it with delayed funding. During this process, our SBA loan got hung up due to some things, but I decided to do it anyway and self-finance it myself until the funding went through, and I am glad I did. Like they say, “No risk, no reward.”
