Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindley Mayer.
Hi Lindley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My passion for dancing began when my mom enrolled me in a dance class when I was three. I had an instant love for dance and performing. I would create “shows” for my family at every holiday featuring my siblings as a part of our Christmas traditions. After dancing competitively, in studio dance, and as a part of the JL MANN Varsity Dance Team, I knew I wanted to pursue a dance/acting career. I moved to Los Angeles, CA, to make that dream a reality after my senior year of high school. I resided for 8 years, training top choreographers and instructors and working professionally in the industry. While in Los Angeles, I worked on projects such as GLEE, The Oscars with Host Seth MacFarlane, Bunheads on ABC Family, America’s Got Talent, Victorious, and performing for Lady Antebellum for the American Country Music Awards. I also worked on Hunger Games in the role of Kaysa Minox and The Walking Dead and starred in a television series filmed in the Upstate and in California entitled “Morningside.” I also appeared as a lead dancer for the “Dirty Dancing” remake for Lionsgate Pictures. I have trained extensively in the genres of Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, Lyrical, Tap, Hip-hop, Ballroom, Modern, heels, Pom, and Musical Theatre.
Lindley has appeared in commercials for NASCAR, Wii (Just Dance), Camp Rock Promo, and The Big Help with iCarly. She also danced in music videos for Miley Cyrus, Green Day, Jo De La Rosa, and MORE. One of her favorite experiences was performing at Christina Aguilera’s home for her son’s 2nd birthday. Lindley has been seen in local Benson Nissan commercials and modeling for companies in the Upstate like Marley Lily, Splash on Main, and others. Lindley has choreographed for many National Champion competition teams, college teams, studio teams, and pageant soloists. She also performed the role of Magic Carpet in Disneyland’s “Aladdin- A Musical Spectacular.” She has won several overall choreography awards throughout her teaching and choreography career and loves building and training her dancers. She works alongside her longtime best friend and creative other half, Marisa Dorchock. She was Miss South Carolina Teen 2005, and along with finishing 1st runner-up to Miss South Carolina in 2013, she won overall talent for 2 consecutive years.
Lindley has choreographed many overall winning talents and even talents for the Miss America and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Stages, including our current Miss South Carolina’s Teen Margaret Turner, who has been a part of Shock since its inception. We are also the official choreographers for the Miss South Carolina Palmetto Stars Organization.
Shock Dance Center is more than a dance studio. SHOCK offers many performance opportunities, volunteer events, and outstanding training from top-notch instructors. Shock Dance Center offers basic, intermediate, advanced, and competitive levels of dance training in all genres. We also offer a special needs dance program for FREE for all dancers and are incredibly proud of our Shock Stars. Shock is the HOME of the JL Mann High School Dance Team. We offer all pageant crown box needs, talent training, and choreography. These two businesses collided, and growing has been such a joy! I love bringing my two passions together! We won dancing with the Palmetto state stars for the inaugural year and a Woman of Achievement for the Miss South Carolina organization.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When Shock Dance opened its doors in 2014, we received so much support from our community. We have experienced fantastic growth since we opened and are building our own dance home from the ground up. We did experience the trials and tribulations of COVID-19. Still, we kept our dancers dancing virtually and provided several opportunities to keep up their training to return more vital than ever.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is performing at the Miss South Carolina Pageant with my younger sister. I served as Miss South Carolina Teen when I was 13 years old, and as a part of the production, I did a dance featuring over 300 mentor participants and an exceptional performance with my little sister, Brantley. Both of my siblings have Fanconi Syndrome and suffer from both mental and physical disabilities. I have been an advocate for them my entire life, and they are what inspired my 501c3, Lindley’s Alliance. This performance was a special one that I will never forget. I’d love to add more about my charity, but I understand if that needs to be shorter.
