Today we’d like to introduce you to JaNay House.
Hi JaNay, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey is a tapestry woven with diverse experiences and unwavering determination. Born and raised in the charming town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, I grew up as the middle child and the only girl among my two brothers. The military beckoned, and I answered the call, joining the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Mate. Little did I know that this would be the first step in a multifaceted career. While in the Navy, I donned various hats, transitioning from Human Resources to security and ultimately finding my niche as a Senior Federal Employee. Serving as the Contracting Officer Representative of a Navy Health Clinic and a Manpower Specialist at the Naval Information Warfare Center, I gained experience. I earned accolades such as the Navy and Marine Achievement Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal. After 15 years of dedicated federal service, I faced a pivotal moment – the decision to transition from active duty to civilian life. Embracing change, I chose to delve into the world of real estate, obtaining my license during this pivotal period. Over the past 7 years, I have passionately served as a Realtor, assisting buyers, sellers, and investors in the vibrant Lowcountry area.
In the last year, I boldly decided to become a full-time entrepreneur. I proudly established The House Huntress LLC, a real estate venture under the esteemed Carolina One Real Estate. My approach is defined by style, strategy, and success as I guide clients through their real estate needs. My academic journey has been equally dynamic. Armed with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Federal Acquisition and Contract Management, I am pursuing a Masters in Organizational Leadership at Charleston Southern University. Simultaneously, I am part of the Minority Business Accelerator Cohort for the Charleston Chamber of Commerce, fostering connections and growth.
Family plays a central role in my life. I met my husband, an engineer, during my Navy tenure, and we’ve built a beautiful life together with our 10-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son. Beyond my real estate pursuits, I am passionate about fashion, food, and travel. Together with my family, I co-own a local online boutique, adding another layer to my entrepreneurial spirit. My journey is a testament to adaptability, resilience, and the pursuit of passion. From a Navy veteran with a diverse military career to a dedicated Realtor and thriving business owner, each step has shaped my story, leading me to where I am today – a dynamic force in the real estate landscape of Charleston, South Carolina.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Navigating the path from military service to full-time real estate entrepreneurship has been challenging but ultimately rewarding. The transition to the discipline required for entrepreneurship presented a steep learning curve. Balancing the demands of a dynamic real estate market, being an involved mother and wife, and pursuing advanced education have tested my resilience. There have been moments when these responsibilities felt overwhelming, prompting me to lean on my faith for strength. Daily challenges, maintaining a positive attitude, and ensuring my commitment to family remains unwavering, all while building and growing a business, have been formidable tasks. It’s a constant juggling act that requires dedication and determination. Crying out to God for support during challenging days has been a source of solace. Despite the hurdles, I am proud that the journey has succeeded. Each obstacle has been an opportunity for growth and learning, contributing to my professional and personal development. The key has been resilience, the ability to face adversity with determination, and the unwavering support of my family. While the road has been challenging, the rewards and successes have made it all worthwhile.

Can you talk to us about the role of luck?
I firmly believe in blessings rather than luck, as my journey in both life and business has been guided by faith and divine favor. The concept of luck implies chance, while blessings align with a higher purpose and plan. Proverbs 16:3 encapsulates this sentiment: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Throughout my life and entrepreneurial endeavors, I have relied on faith and hard work, trusting that each step is part of a greater plan. Challenges have been growth opportunities, and successes have been blessings reinforcing the path I’m meant to walk. I find assurance and purpose beyond luck by committing my actions and aspirations to the Lord. This perspective shapes my outlook and influences how I approach my business. It instills a sense of gratitude for the opportunities presented and a commitment to ethical and moral practices. I attribute my achievements to the blessings and divine guidance that have shaped my journey, fostering resilience and gratitude in life and business.
