Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Albrecht.
Hi Casey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started ‘Custom Vows by Casey after spending years in a corporate job that felt it needed to be more right. However, the job did lead me to discover that I had a knack for public speaking. Back in 2020, I attended a wedding that sparked the idea. A good friend of the couple officiated the ceremony. This guy was so engaging that it turned the ceremony from a ‘necessary’ part of the wedding day into something the guests and the couple were excited to be a part of! That’s when it just clicked in my brain, “You should start officiating weddings for a living.” So I packed my bags, moved to the wedding destination of America (the beautiful Charleston, SC), and opened up shop! Now, I offer couples a less stuffy, more modern ceremony that their family and friends enjoy.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been relatively smooth so far?
As with any new business venture, there have been highs and lows throughout the last three + years. From 2021 to 2023, the business will steadily increase. I began hosting networking events for wedding vendors to expand my networking. Those have been a massive hit with the community. 2024 has proven to be a challenging year for the wedding industry, specifically in Charleston. After speaking with many different vendors, it’s just a down year for one reason or another. I am working with some other local vendors to expand the networking events to the broader Charleston community. I’m excited to see how those expand this year!
As you know, we’re big fans of Custom Vows by Casey. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
Primarily, I am a wedding officiant. I love being a part of a couple’s special day and seeing the joy between them. I have discovered a new passion for bringing the community of wedding vendors together through fun and exciting networking events. There is a gap in the market for these types of events. As a small business owner, it’s great to build a network of other professionals in the industry to collaborate and bounce ideas off of. The community of wedding vendors in Charleston is very collaborative and always looking to lift each other!
What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
There is a definite shift to smaller, more intimate weddings. Couples are focused on spending quality time with their closest friends and family members instead of having a guest list of 350 people. Microwedding experiences, dinner parties, and elopements are some of my favorite types of weddings, and I look forward to the following trends.
