Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Myrick.
Hi Justin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
How I got started, wow. I started out acting! It first started as school talent shows and church plays. To make a long story short, I got an agent in North Carolina, then an agent in LA, then a more prominent agent in New York City, and I worked up there for about three years. I was still in school then, so my parents put me in an online charter school to pursue acting while continuing my education. I’ve booked roles on Nickelodeon, Adult Swim, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Paramount. I’m also an American Black Film Festival Award winner for my role of “Arthur” in Knucklehead, which has Alfre Woodward in it (She’s so lovely). I’ve also booked national VO ads for Poptarts, McDonald’s, and Discover the Forest. I’ve worked in the NYC, LA, and ATL markets. I’ve been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 2011. You can look me up on IMDB to see some of the films/TV shows I’ve been in. After working in NYC for three years, my parents brought me back home to start preparing me for college. My mother is an ABD college professor, so education has always been a big focus for her. She’s always emphasized it. So, after getting a music scholarship to Ball State University to study classical music, I took a gap year and enrolled in Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). I had a great time there and discovered my love for visual effects. Before graduating, I was recruited by a highly well-known VFX Company in LA. So, once I graduated (with honors), I moved to LA and worked on dream projects. One was the Target/Marvel “Black Panther Wakanda Forever” commercials that ran nationwide. I did about four shots for that. I was ecstatic to know that I had a connection to the #1 movie in the world. There’s the 2023 Temu Superbowl commercial that I worked on, which was mind-blowing. It’s great to see something you participated in at the Super Bowl with Rihanna! The Nike World Cup ad stars Mbappe and Ronaldhino, which got me mentioned in Adage.com! I’ve also done work for Indeed, AT&T, Apple, Cricket Wireless, Meta, and AutoZone.
When the actor/writer strikes happened, I came back home to SC. While discussing my next move with my family, I launched Justin Myrick Media! I could do the same thing I was doing in LA but for the businesses here in the upstate. I’ve been attending various networking events; out of that, I’m working with USC Upstate. I started a contract with them this week, and I will be doing content creation for them. In addition, I’ve launched my podcast. “My Uncles and Me.” It’s a podcast with a purpose. I have accomplished older men advising a younger man on how they got to be where they are. I called it “My Uncles and Me” because I knew a lot of accomplished older men, and whenever I talked to them, it was almost like talking to my uncles. So, why not spotlight them and see their advice for the next generation? The first episode with guest Uncle Scott McHam (Mr. Empowerment) launched on January 19th of this year, and you can see it anywhere you get your podcasts!

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
What’s helped me with some of the bumps along the way has been staying focused and patient. When pursuing any goal, you run into obstacles; staying focused is key. I’ve seen many incredibly talented people give up because they lost focus or weren’t the patients who needed anything. Another thing is always learning. I’ve heard from multiple highly successful people that you always continue learning. No matter where you are in life, you always have to keep learning if you want to keep growing and moving higher. That’s another thing for battling challenges and obstacles. If you stop learning, you’ll sit stagnant, and nobody wants that.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in social media content creation and visual effects. I have about 87K followers across social media (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram)—3 Million likes on TikTok, and over 10 Million views. I’ve been privileged to have fans worldwide who support what I do. I call them Justinites. They’ve streamed my music in over 101 countries. My background in visual effects and my ability to create content sets me apart from others. I’ve done work for Nike, Target, Marvel, Temu, Indeed, and AT&T. However, I’ve also been building my brand. I have fun doing both. That’s what sets me apart: I enjoy what I do. When people enjoy their work, others can feel it and gravitate towards it. People want to be around that energy, which is needed worldwide.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I do a lot of volunteer work; last year, I volunteered at South Carolina’s oldest talent competition—the 42nd annual Evening of Talent Expressions. I did a lot leading up to the show and then during the night of the show. Last year, I started their Instagram page (@eveningoftalentexpressions). I was there during the auditions when they were scouting the talent for the show. I created a contestant for each show leading up to the event. It was a series of vertical videos that spotlighted each contestant. I made a countdown timer that counted down the days of the show. I also created the graphics that were used on stage. 3rd-day productions asked if I could create a graphic for a 20-foot LED screen displayed during the show. Seeing my work on 2 20-foot LED screens was such a moment! It caught me off guard at just how high up the screens went. I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. During the show, I also served as the MC for the night. It was a lot of work, but when it’s to help shine a light on the incredible talent in the upstate, it makes it all worth it. I have been volunteering for an Evening of Talent Expressions before. I first volunteered back in 2017.
