Hi Danielle and Dr. Michael, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
What a journey it’s been! Here’s the story:
Danielle Howley’s athletic and health-conscious husband, Marty, became gravely ill at just 37 years old. Over the next decade, they visited countless doctors, but no treatments brought relief. Marty’s condition worsened until he was completely bedridden, unable to work or function. Doctors delivered the devastating message: “Get your affairs in order.”
As a last resort, Danielle and Marty took a leap of faith on a medical treatment across the country. In just five weeks, Marty experienced a dramatic, full recovery—it felt like a miracle. Inspired by this life-changing experience, Danielle became determined to bring this treatment home to South Carolina. Her vision was clear: to create a safe, welcoming space where patients with chronic illnesses could heal naturally under the care of smart, compassionate doctors and a supportive, loving staff.
Danielle sought out the best in the field and convinced Dr. Michael Bauerschmidt, an expert in chronic illness, to join her mission. Together, they opened the doors to Deeper Healing in September 2019, operating out of a small office in Mount Pleasant, SC. They designed the Stay + Heal program to mirror what Danielle and Marty had long wished for—a comprehensive approach that combined cutting-edge medical care with genuine compassion. As patients recovered, word spread organically, and people began traveling from far and wide to experience Deeper Healing’s unique treatments. As demand grew, the practice expanded, the staff increased, and quickly, the need for a larger space.
With their sights set on something truly special, Dr. Bauerschmidt, Danielle and the team built a state-of-the-art medical wellness center in the heart of downtown Daniel Island. Opening in July 2023, the new Deeper Healing Medical Wellness Center embodies their mission: a serene haven for the most sensitive patients. Now staffed by 20 exceptionally compassionate individuals, Deeper Healing continues to draw patients from across the U.S. and around the globe.
In 2024, Deeper Healing was honored as “Best of South Carolina” and has already been nominated again for 2025. Their mission is simple yet powerful: to heal the sick and prevent illness before it starts. Through ongoing education for families and practitioners, they are spreading the Deeper Healing philosophy far and wide. And the journey doesn’t stop here—an inspiring documentary about their work is set to release in 2025.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were a few:
Getting started was the hardest. Finding the right doctor, then finding a space. And then marketing an entire new medical way to heal.
Then there was Covid, in one day, every single traveling patient cancelled. Airports were closed and we had no idea what would happen next. It was crazy. Then, the phone started ringing off the hook with locals who “wanted to get their immune system fixed.” Overnight we went from lots of travelers to lots of locals.
Then there was finding a building that we felt was safe and amazing for our new center, this took years and then once we found it, the process of building it out was intense as well.

I speak to sick people every day for over 5 years, 30-40 hours a week. I have learned so much from them.
Never to give up. Persist when things don’t feel right. Never accept, “your just getting old” “this is your diagnosis and there is nothing we can do” and “you’re fine” when you know you are not.
