Hi Melanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Laura and I have been friends for over a decade. What began as a client–stylist relationship from Laura doing my hair naturally grew into a deep and meaningful friendship.
A few years ago, Laura found herself at a crossroads, contemplating closing her salon and exploring an alternative business venture. Around the same time, I was in a season of transition as well. After recently losing my mother, whom I had been a caregiver for, I was on my own healing journey seeking ways to reset, restore, and pour back into myself. I had also liquidated some assets and was looking to invest in something innovative, purposeful, and rooted in self-care.
One day, while spending time together, Laura mentioned a trending spa service she had been learning about: the Japanese Head Spa. Intrigued, I began researching it and was immediately drawn to the concept. It felt like a refreshing and intentional blend of traditional spa care and modern wellness, something truly special.
As we talked, everything aligned. We looked at each other and said, “Let’s go for it!” We noticed there were very few offerings like this in our area, and there was a clear need for a space dedicated to deep relaxation, healing, and renewal.
That’s how Serenity was born! A perfect blend of Laura’s expertise, skill, and passion with my desire to heal, reset, and create something meaningful. The timing was just right, and the vision was clear: to offer a sanctuary where self-care is not a luxury, but a necessity
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our road has been mostly smooth, with just a few bumps along the way. Through it all, we truly feel the divine spirit present in everything we have accomplished thus far. There were moments when we wondered how we were going to figure certain things out, but we took each challenge in stride, trusting the process and leaning on one another.
One moment that still makes us smile was the day we had to figure out how to hang new doors. Neither of us had ever done it before, but with patience, teamwork, and a little determination, we got it done. From that day on, we officially added “HandyWoMan” to our growing repertoire of skills. Turns out, we’re pretty nifty with a level and a hammer!
Those moments, big and small, became part of the foundation of Serenity. They remind us that this journey isn’t just about building a business, but about growth, faith, resilience, and discovering what’s possible when you show up with heart and purpose.
