Exploring Life & Business with Wendi Hill of Market Momentum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendi Hill

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Market Momentum, a woman-owned marketing firm located in Greenville, S.C., is celebrating 20 years in business this month. Founded by me, Wendi Hill, in 2005, Market Momentum assists a wide variety of large and small businesses in the professional services, legal, ecommerce and non-profit industries.

Market Momentum, originally named Hill Marketing & PR, has worked to achieve many significant milestones since its inception twenty years ago, but the most important one is tailoring their services to what clients need. I started Market
Momentum shortly after becoming a mother to allow more flexibility from a demanding career in agency marketing. After deciding to go out on my own, I began freelancing for a while. During this time period she came across many clients
that needed basic help in their marketing endeavors and she had the knowledge and insight in the industry to help.

When I started my business in 2005, the internet was not what it was today. There were no ‘influencers’ or AI for people to learn what to do to market their business or services. I offered my knowledge and service as a virtual marketing assistant and from there the business grew.

I credit the longevity of Market Momentum to constantly evolving and always learning. Her services include advertising development, branding packages, graphic design, content development, digital marketing, social media management, event planning, website development and more. I started a weekly podcast in 2024 called “Confessions from the Home Office” which I shares tips and tricks for marketing professionals all while sharing her life working from home. I also started a series of online courses which help give interested professionals the keys to a virtually marketing background.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It really hasn’t been a rough road professionally. I’m pretty good at vetting clients. Personally, I was a single mom for 13 years while running the business, so juggling everything was a lot. Running my business out of my house, I was able to be there for my children as they grew up and keep the business going.

As you know, we’re big fans of Market Momentum. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Market Momentum is a woman-owned marketing firm based in Greenville, South Carolina that’s celebrating its 20th anniversary this month. I founded the company in 2005, originally naming it Hill Marketing & PR, as a way to create more flexibility in my career after becoming a mother.

We specialize in providing comprehensive marketing services across multiple industries, with particular expertise in the professional services, legal, ecommerce, and non-profit sectors. Our service offerings have evolved significantly over two decades to include advertising development, branding packages, graphic design, content development, digital marketing, social media management, event planning, and website development.

What sets Market Momentum apart is our ability to continuously adapt to the rapidly changing marketing landscape. When I started the business, the internet was vastly different—there were no influencers or AI-driven marketing tools. We began by offering virtual marketing assistance to clients who needed fundamental marketing help, and we’ve grown by consistently evolving our services to meet clients’ changing needs.

I’m particularly proud of how we’ve maintained relevance by embracing new channels and formats. In 2024, I launched a weekly podcast called ‘Confessions from the Home Office’ where I share marketing insights while discussing the realities of working from home. We’ve also developed online courses to help professionals gain virtual marketing skills.

Over my two decades in business, we’ve served more than 130 clients across diverse industries including healthcare, nonprofit, legal, engineering, and franchising. What I’d like your readers to know is that our longevity comes from our commitment to continuous learning and adaptation—essential qualities in the fast-paced marketing world. Our success is built on providing personalized marketing solutions that truly address what our clients need to thrive. We get the work done. So many times, people come to me because they spent a lot of money on a firm that disappeared or just never would engage. We know your dollars are important, and we are going to get what is needed, done!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I have two:

Meeting clients where they are – If a client needs basic assistance, that is what I do. If they need full service consulting, that’s what I do. Ongoing conversation makes growing or changing the scope easier.

Ongoing education is a must. A marketing degree is not going to give you what you need to know to run a marketing business. I got a MS in Industrial Management, and that helped me understand the operations side of a business. I am taking classes, watching webinars and reading constantly. Technology is changing so quickly. Mid 90s knowledge is not enough today! As you learn, you will have more services to offer. Keep things moving forward!
