Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Lavarnway
Hi Sydney, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my karate journey at the age of six and quickly developed a deep passion for the sport. As I progressed, I started competing at various tournaments and, by the age of eight, earned my first national gold medal. Karate has played a significant role in shaping my confidence, independence, and resilience. However, the journey has not been without its challenges.
Inspired by my experiences, I created this clothing line to empower female athletes and encourage them to persevere through obstacles with self-belief and determination. My goal is to share my mantra of confidence, resilience, and strength, inspiring women to work hard, trust in their abilities, and embrace their full potential.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Competing at the international level comes with its challenges. Balancing academics, training, and managing a business can often feel overwhelming. One of the biggest hurdles in running my business has been marketing my products effectively.
In karate, one of my greatest challenges has been training virtually. Following my dreams has required me to change coaches multiple times, and my current sensei is located across the country. Juggling my athletic goals, friendships, and responsibilities has been a demanding task. However, despite these challenges, I maintain a 4.7 GPA, run an online apparel business, and travel globally to compete.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets me apart is that, at just 16 years old, I own an online apparel company and have an ambitious goal: competing in the 2026 Youth Olympics. My dedication is unwavering—I wake up almost every day at 5 AM to train, attend school, and then train again in the afternoon. My commitment to success extends beyond athletics; I am graduating a semester early to dedicate even more time and energy to achieving my dreams.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
My online apparel brand was founded on the mantra of self-belief—a principle that remains constant, even as my personal goals evolve. My mission is to inspire and empower women, helping them recognize their own strength and potential. I want every woman to feel confident in pursuing and achieving her dreams. This brand is not just about my journey; it’s about uplifting and supporting women everywhere.
