Check Out Sonia Jaworski and Amy Hill’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonia Jaworski and Amy Hill

Hi Sonia and Amy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Tri It For Life Greenville was founded by friends Sonia Jaworski and Amy Hill. The ladies have previous triathlon experience and mentored together for a virtual Tri It for Life program. When Amy relocated to Greenville from Charleston, they became determined to launch a new chapter. Both believe women in the Greenville area will benefit from the empowerment, support and sense of achievement earned from this organization.

Tri It For Life is not a training group. It is not about whipping women into shape. Tri It For Life is a MENTORING organization. It’s about the journey to fitness, to friendships, and to finding yourself.

The Tri It For Life organization specializes in nurturing each woman’s goal of completing a triathlon by helping them break down barriers they often impose on themselves. New athletes are led through the training process by a band of volunteer mentors, They guide and encourage new triathletes at members-only swim clinics, bicycle rides and running opportunities.

Athletes don’t just learn how to compete, they receive self-reliant education about bike use and maintenance, including proper use of gears, how to change a tire, clean a bike chain and other functions of the machine. At Tri It For Life transition clinics and mock triathlons, athletes are building confidence in their ability to get out of the pool, jump on a bike, ride nine miles, jump off a bike and run two miles.

Along the way, the athletes challenge and better themselves by getting healthy, gaining self-confidence and self-esteem, developing relationships with like-minded women. Each season ends with a celebration of our success. It’s the culmination of several months of hard, dedicated work on the part of the athletes and their mentors, and a great rally as the group looks toward race day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Launching a new chapter has been both exciting and rewarding. However, we’ve faced challenges in securing financial sponsors essential for implementing our training programs, booking venues, and acquiring necessary equipment. Additionally, finding mentors has been difficult. Unlike established chapters that can draw from former athletes to fill mentorship roles, we lack that established network as a new chapter

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Tri It For Life is dedicated to inspiring women who may have never considered themselves athletes to embrace fitness. Through a structured training program, volunteer mentors guide participants in swimming, biking, and running — the three disciplines of a triathlon. The emphasis is not solely on competition but on building confidence, achieving personal milestones, and fostering a supportive community.

Our program includes:

Mentorship-Based Training: Each participant, commonly referred to as a “first-timer,” is paired with experienced mentors who provide guidance and encouragement throughout the training process.
Group Workouts: Regular training sessions focus on technique, endurance, and overall fitness. The group dynamic encourages accountability and creates meaningful connections among participants.
Race Day Support: The organization ensures all participants feel prepared for race day by offering advice on race strategy, nutrition, and mental preparation.
