Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Carney.
Hi Sean, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been a practicing Artist for 30-plus years and a professional exhibiting Artist for about a decade. I create my paintings using water-based wood stains, materials, and unique methods. I put a lot of work into my studies of art techniques and the business side of the Arts; I have visited close to 200 art galleries to learn about their Artists and their business practices. This is what led me to the beautiful city of Charleston.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, but it has been a rewarding and enjoyable journey. For every success I have been blessed with, there have been a dozen disappointments; you must learn to focus on your victories and learn from your shortfalls. I will only fit into some galleries, and only some collectors will want my work, but if I focus on that, it will slow me down, which is not productive.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
My paintings are bookmarks in my life, places, or events that I find beautiful. Like in my career, I focus on the positives; this way, while I spend hours on a painting, I relive that wonderful moment.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I enjoyed my first trip to New York by myself on the path train to attend Art School; I was 15 and felt so independent.
